The telegraph was invented by Samuel Finley Breese Morse in 1837. The telegraph was a communication device that sent telegrams using the Morse code (named after Samuel Morse). It works by sending a series of pulses through a long wire and to another telegraph device so it could be interpreted.

The significance of the invention of the telegraph was that it was a new way to communicate with other people. Also, it was much faster and easier. The impact it made on people's lives was it was a whole new opening for the media to exchange stories. The telegraph was used a lot and efficiently.
