Principal’s Message
This week students participated in disability awareness education from Educating Outside the Lines. The guest speaker was Amanda McGrory, a three time Paralympian (2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio) and seven-time Paralympic medalist. She is also a past winner of the Chicago, New York, London and Tokyo Marathons. McGrory attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2004-2010 on an athletic scholarship before pursuing a full-time career as a professional wheelchair marathoner. Students truly enjoyed listening to Amanda and learning about many different disabilities.
Believe it or not, we are already thinking about class placement at Red Oak for the 2021-2022 school year! Classroom teachers will begin creating class rosters for next year in May. We do our best to ensure that each classroom has positive group dynamics and is well balanced. As we start this process, if you have information you would like us to consider as it pertains to your child’s learning style, please put it in writing and send it to your child's teacher and to Mrs. Bellini no later than Friday, May 7, 2021.
If there is a particular consideration you have requested in the past and you still think it is important, please include a brief note outlining the information. Requests for a specific teacher are not appropriate and will not be considered. Throughout the placement process, a great deal of careful thought will be given by our teachers regarding each individual student’s learning strengths and peer relations. We will continue to work hard to create the best learning environment for every child!
Thank you for your understanding as we work to develop the 2021-2022 classroom rosters.
Mrs. Bellini

MAP Testing
Beginning the week of April 26th, In Person and Virtual Learning students in grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade will be taking the NWEA MAP Growth Assessments in Reading, Mathematics, and Spanish (Dual Language). North Shore School District 112 utilizes the NWEA MAP Growth Assessments to inform students’ immediate instructional needs and to collect a data point to measure growth over time. The MAP Growth assessment is an adaptive, norm-referenced assessment utilized to measure student growth over time, understand student readiness levels, and target instruction for students needing additional support or challenge. Your child's teacher will be communicating additional information regarding testing schedules and preparation in the coming days. Please check out the NWEA Family Toolkit for more information.
