News from Glen Crest Middle School: May 15, 2022

From the Principal

The end of the year is quickly approaching! There are a number of reminders in this newsletter. This will likely be a busy week for your students with projects wrapping up, units being completed and end of unit tests. Please encourage your kids to finish strong!

Parents, we really need your help with dress code for the remainder of the year. The dress code was relaxed this year to allow for more current fashion trends and to allow all kids to feel comfortable. A committee of parents, students and staff worked to update the dress code and make sure all voices were heard. We would like school to be a wholesome environment where students learn self respect, respect for each other, and that all attire is not appropriate for school and at some point, work.

We have groups of kids, especially in 7th and 8th grade, who seem to be challenging the idea of a dress code at all. Some examples of what we are seeing: extremely short shorts that are very revealing, sports bras, camis and bralettes that are being worn as tank tops, clothing that accentuates lacy undergarments, and men's very thin and tight tank top undershirts with nothing over them. Many of these things are fine for the beach or a trip to the gym, but not for school.

Your help in making sure clothes are school appropriate is greatly appreciated!

The event will feature live and silent auctions, music, and international food.
