Weekly Bulletin

~May 4-8~Week 33~

Education is not to reform students or amuse them or to make them expert technicians. It is to unsettle their minds, widen their horizons, inflame their intellects, teach them to think straight, if possible. —Robert M. Hutchins

Thank you!

Dear Colleagues,

I cannot express how much you are appreciated & valued; I do not say often but there's not one day that I don't get inspired by you, our children, and our families. Thank you for allowing me to work for you & with you. Every day, I see all that you do for our children and community and encourages me to do the same. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Robin's email:

Sorry about the confusion.

The final C-EoU is not on the official assessment calendar, and scanning is optional.

The assessment itself, however, is part of the core curriculum, and our recommendation is that all students take it. If you look at the bottom of pg. 19 of any purple guide (all grades), you can see the message teachers got.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks, and happy Monday,

Robin

IMPORTANT INFO: Scanning is optional, but I'd like the data entered for our records & to ensure we have data for the BOY.

In addition, it is unknown as to when & how we will make time to discuss this. As you know, we are down to zero money for sub release time & all of our Wednesdays & staff meetings are fully booked.

May 6th PD Logistics

The following are the logistics to ensure that teachers get their 2nd prep and also be able to attend the PD at Tilden Campus.

Prep time: 1:40-2:30 PM (50 minutes of prep)

PD @ Tilden: 2:40-3:40 PM (1 hour of required PD)

PD @ Tilden: 3:40-4:10 PM (paid time comes from weekly collaboration budget)

Collaboration: 4:10-4:40 PM (30 minutes of collaboration - paid time comes from weekly collaboration budget)

What is Blended Learning?

PLEASE READ: What is the STNA survey?

The STNA survey is a needs assessment that all teaching & support staff need to take in order to assess the school needs to make blended learning a reality at our site. This assessment will provide the granters an idea as to how to support us with the infra-structure, tech proficiency, PD, resources, etc. before launching blended learning at our site.

I recommend that on May 6th after the DL PD, the last 30 minutes (from 4:10-4:40) be used to do the survey. This is paid collaboration time & this way, we do not have to use any other of our days.

Please bring your laptops, smart phones, or chromebooks to our Wed. PD at Tilden.

Thank you!

Expo-Coming Up!

Please submit to Beatrice the following information in preparation to our May 21st Expo:

~OPERATIONS~

Restroom Logs

Dear Colleagues,

We will be requiring for you to submit restroom logs for Friday, May 1st. We had an incident in the girls restroom in the main building where a student defecated in one of the stalls, smeared the feces all over the stall, toilet, & clogged the restroom. This incident occurred before 10 AM.

The restroom logs were required for all 2nd through 5th grade teachers. If you know of any student student that might have had been allowed to the restroom around that time, I am interested in knowing who they are. I am alarmed by this behavior & I see it extremely important to support the child in any way possible.

Library Books

Dear Colleagues,

As we are beginning to close out this school year, Todd will be sharing with you the list of outstanding books that need to be returned prior to be cleared (CICO).

In addition, he will also give your students a list of books owed, please make sure that help us out collecting these books. As you know, we do not have a budget for replacing these books, so any books that we can replace it helps significantly.

Thank you,

Chromecart Usage

Hello All,

Please review the SBAC Calendar; I will have a sign-up calendar in the main office for computer cart usage in the P.M. for those that want to practice with their kids.

Thanks,

Nancy

Expeditionary Learning Workshops

Hello leaders of EL schools,

We are delighted to announce the release of the EL National Professional Development Catalog and Calendar for 2015-16! The catalog is comprehensive - please look it over to see descriptions of our 3- and 5-day institutes, site seminars, and regional offerings, as well as important information about the national conference, registration & logistics, and how we approach PD.

The catalog and calendar are posted on our website under Educator Resources>Professional Development. Note that though the catalog includes the calendar (on p. 6-7), there is also a separate calendar, as many people like to refer to it as a stand-alone document. We hope this helps you and your staff as you plan for the coming year.
