Retirement News
Coach Cuffe, our long-time PE teacher will be retiring at the end of December. Please join me in thanking him for his service to our school and local community. We will certainly miss him!
Congratulations to Mrs. Inagaki and Mr. Robinson
I would like to recognize Mrs. Inagaki (1st Grade Teacher) for obtaining her National Board Certification. National Board Certified Teachers are proven to be among the most effective teachers across the country. National Board Certification is the most respected certification that a licensed teacher can obtain. Please join me in congratulating her for this major achievement.
Additionally, I would also like to recognize Mr. Robinson (Special Education Teacher). Mr. Robinson recently completed his school administration degree program and has earned his license to become a school administrator. Please join me in congratulating him for this major achievement.
Food Drive
I would like to thank everyone who has donated to our annual food drive. We really appreciate your help and commitment to the Northwoods Community. All food items we collect will be assembled into packages and distributed to families in need throughout our school community. For those of you that would like to participate, please know that we are still accepting donations. Friday, December 13th is the last day to donate food items.

This is a friendly reminder that December 20th is now a full instructional day for students.
Spirit Week--December 16th-20th

- Tuesday--Dress to Impress/Fancy Day (wear your nice clothing, but bring sneakers for recess/PE)

As many of you have already noticed, we've added some new furniture to our front entrance, conference room, and front office spaces. I'm excited to announce that this is just one of several planned upgrades that will be happening at Northwoods over the coming months. To honor our commitment to provide each child with a clean, welcoming, and safe school environment, we will be working to clean, paint, and reimagine existing spaces to better accommodate student needs and interests.
Northwoods Elementary PTA Information
Happy Birthday to our lunchroom composting program! In October 2018, Northwoods students switched from polystyrene to paper trays. Through support from a nonprofit called Every Tray Counts, trays from our school go to a large composting facility, not a landfill. Our cafeteria staff also separate fruit and vegetable waste from the meals they prepare. Together, we have kept 4,125 pounds of trays out of the landfill and created 1,031 pounds of compost! Thank you to students, teachers and cafeteria staff for making our program a model for other schools that want to reduce waste.
Thanks to our PTA funded Cultural Arts program, all the students in ECS1 and ECS2 will participate in a special outreach program from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences called Meet the Animals.
On Friday December 13th, these student will have the opportunity to get up close and acquainted with some of the Museum’s animal ambassadors, learn about their characteristics, adaptations, and the roles they play in our environment.
Students will get the chance to touch live animals and ask questions from a Museum animal expert.
Make sure to ask your students about their favorite in-class animal experience next week-end!
