Did you know that during summer, scrip rebates go directly into your family account? That means you earn the rebate for your family to use for classroom costs and field trips next year. With school returning in the fall we are anticipating being able to go on field trips. Now it’s super easy to earn especially if you have the app, RaiseRight, because you can purchase those e-cards at any time.

If you need physical cards be sure and order by the dates below. I will be doing an order on June 22, July 6, and August 6. Please contact me with any questions you have at Thank you!

Message from the PFO Board

Please MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW for these two important dates:

The PFO will be hosting a big “welcome back to campus” event on Monday,

August 9th. Join us to celebrate our return to full in-person learning, reunite with old

friends, meet new ones, say hello to your teachers, and check out all the ways you can

volunteer and get involved! This event will also be a fundraiser for our newly-

revamped STEM classroom (formerly computer lab), so come on out and enjoy some

FLOUR DUST PIZZA and KONA ICE with your Dewey fam!

Our first PFO meeting of the new school year will be on September 13th at 7pm!

Save that date, as well as the 2nd Monday of each month! The Dewey PFO would love

some new faces & new ideas for the 2021-2022 school year. Keep an eye on the Tiger Tale for more details.

Finally, we are still seeking VOLUNTEERS to help coordinate some of our special

events next year, including the Fall Fest (October), Santa’s Night (December), and

the Crab Feed (March), as well as possibly a school dance, and any other fun events

you can dream up! Please contact Ali Houting, PFO Treasurer, at or 916-204-6315 if you are interested in getting involved in any way! These long-standing traditions are a huge part of what makes Dewey great, and your PFO looks forward to a fantastic return next year! Together, we are #DeweyStrong.

For Incoming Kinder through 1st graders

We can't wait to welcome our newest students in the fall. Our kindergarteners will have the opportunity to participate in gross motor Thursdays, learn reading and writing skills and participate in the buddy program. Kindergarteners traditionally go on field trips to the pumpkin patch, SeaQuest, and the Folsom Zoo. In between learning in the classroom, Kindergarteners are able to participate in many parties and celebrations throughout the year. Our first graders build on their foundational skills they've learned in Kindergarten. They have opportunities to learn outside of the classroom on awesome field trips, the technology stem room, and art, music & PE. The buddy system is carried on through first grade as well.

For Incoming 2nd Graders

Dear Incoming Second Graders,

We are looking forward to seeing all of you in-person next year. Our year promises to be fun from beginning to end. We will be diving into science and learning about animals, plants, Earth’s surfaces, and properties of matter. W.O.W. on Wheels Science Museum will visit us and show us some great hands-on experiments. In social studies we will learn about maps, communities, producers, and consumers. This will lead us to a day of fun at the Hamburger Farm. In addition to academic fun, we will be getting to know each of you this year through our All About Me weekly activities.

We can’t wait to see you in August!

Mrs. Gardner and Mrs. Ruswinkle

For incoming 3rd graders

Entering 3rd grade is an exciting and fun adventure! We always have fun being artistic and crafty. We love drawing and building during all of our lessons. We learn all about the geography of our beautiful state of California, as well as, the history and the Native American culture that once thrived on this land. Our best field trips provide students an opportunity to really see the history of this land. Effie Yeaw is one of our favorite day trips. Inventors, engineers, scientists and historical figures, as well as, how the government works will all come to life in third grade. We will read, write and do hands on activities to learn all about animals, plants, weather, force and motion. This is the year we, also, learn to multiply and divide through games and music. We often have special guest speakers who visit with our classes to bring real world life to the classroom. But the best part about 3rd grade is the team we create and friends we make as we learn together, play together and grow together. 3rd grade at Dewey is always a fun year!

— Mrs. Kiksman & Mrs. Larsen

3rd grade Teachers

For incoming 4th through 6th graders

Intermediate students become the Role Models and leaders of the school by participating in buddy programs and Student Leadership. Fun field trips such as Sutter's Fort, Rivercats Games, Westminster Woods and the Marin Headlands have been a tradition at Dewey. Cooperative hands-on projects, movie making and community service projects enhance learning opportunities for our 4th-6th grade students.

Chromebook Return

We will be asking:

  1. Students who will be returning to Dewey and are not participating in a summer school program.
  2. Students who are disenrolling from SJUSD to return their chromebook to school.

Those students who are currently on campus in cohort AB may bring their Chromebook and charger back beginning on Friday, June 4 and return it to their teacher. Students in cohort C will need their Chromebook through the last day on June 8. Cohort C may bring their Chromebook and charging cord back to the office beginning on Wednesday, June 9. We will collect and check in chromebooks from your classrooms each morning.

From the Art Desk

Dear Dewey students and families,

This has been quite a year ! As this school year comes to an end, I want to thank the many students who attended the Art Zoom meetings throughout the year and for all of their hard work on the various art assignments. I know what a challenge it has been at times to keep up with everything, so I thank you for your perseverance !

While some of the students already know, I will be retiring this June. I am looking forward to getting back to doing my own artwork, specifically, watercolor painting and pen and ink work to start.

It has been a privilege to teach Art to the students at Dewey School over the years. There is a lot of talent out there, so kids, I hope that you continue to learn, experiment and explore working with different art mediums in the future. Remember that there are no mistakes and to have fun creating !

Thank You Dewey families for supporting the different art events and fundraisers over the years. Take care and have a GREAT summer !
