Peeta says to Katniss
Peeta Mellark, a baker's son from District 12, is one of the main characters of the The Hunger Games trilogy. He is a very compassionate person and is good with words. He has been in love with Katniss Everdeen since the age of 5, but never confessed his feelings until he was reaped alongside her for the 74th Hunger Games.
He spends his time decorating the goods and baking breads, cakes and icing cakes at the bakery which his got a talented and proves to be an unexpected boon to him in the arena.
He is expected to carry out heavy lifting like flour and wheat which therefore makes him substantially strong too which helps in the games.
It is discovered that Peeta has an instinctive ability to perform on camera and manipulate public sentiment
Childhood
Although he grew up in the merchant area of District 12, Peeta's childhood was less than desirable, as his family life was difficult. His father was kind, but his mother was known to beat Peeta and his two brothers if they made a mistake. For example, she hits Peeta with a rolling pin for burning bread.
Class
Peeta's class perspective very much shapes the way he sees the world.
Katniss explains:
“It's not that Peeta's soft exactly, and he's proved he's not a coward. But there are things you don't question too much, I guess, when your home always smells like baking bread, whereas Gale questions everything.”
