Weekly Update
From the Women's Center & LGBTQ+ Programs
Week of November 14th
Greetings from Melissa!
We've got two exciting events we'd love to see you at this week!
- The HUB's annual Friendsgiving Potluck event is Wednesday, 11/16, from 6-8 p.m.
- The opening reception for our latest art exhibit, Embodied, is Thursday, 11/17, from 6-8 p.m. at the Underwood House
Additionally, next Monday (11/21), we will be observing Transgender Day of Remembrance (an annual event held on 11/20), a day to honor and remember the lost lives in the transgender community. Tabling will be happening 10-2 by the A&S Fountain, where you can learn more about TDOR, get a trans awareness ribbon, and create a luminary. The luminary lighting will happen at 6PM at the HUB.
You can of course get more details about upcoming events here in our Weekly Update, on our Women's Center or LGBTQ+ Programs Instagrams, as well as our GC Connect Page.
As always, please reach out if you need anything!
With care,
Melissa

Lifting As We Climb: Celebrating Black Women's Voices of the Racial Uplift Movement
Undergraduate English majors, M.A., and M.F.A. students in Dr. Sidonia Serafini's course, ENGL 4667/5667: African American Women Intellectuals, cordially invite you to visit their student archival research exhibit, "Lifting As We Climb: Celebrating Black Women's Voices of the Racial Uplift Movement."
On display from November 14-18 in the Russell Library, 2nd floor, by the Circulation Desk, the exhibit highlights the literary and cultural contributions of well-known and forgotten African American women writers, teachers, doctors, nurses, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, cooks, and activists whose lives and work advanced the racial uplift movement between 1880-1910.
The class will be present at the exhibit on Tue., Nov. 15, from 3:30-4:45 p.m., to chat with visitors and answer any questions about their research.
