BOOKED UP FOR STATE TESTING!
April is Poetry Month!
Take your kids on a Haiku Hike
"At the beginning of my poetry units each year, I find that my students are often intimidated by poetry, especially when it comes to writing it. Over the years I have tried to find the perfect activities to ease them into writing their own poems. One of my favorite activities is taking my students on a Haiku Hike!!" ~ Rebecca from TeachShare

These are all simple and easy tasks and reminders that we could all do more on a regular basis. Download it, print it, and share it with your students and colleagues.
5 Ways to Disrupt State Tesing - in a good way
State testing is a drag. For many of us, it can be a two or three-week adventure filled with multiple hours of testings. It cuts into our days, messes with schedules, and (honestly) is just boring for everybody. I could continue to give you a plethora of reasons why this testing time of the year stinks, but I'll spare you. Instead, I’m going to give you five reasons why you should use it to your advantage.

READING WINNERS!
The top reader who entered their books in the Reading Log for March is Bailey Beller. $25 Amazon gift card for Bailey.
The top homeroom that checked books in and out is Mrs. Cecil's. Hour of tech fun (new VR glasses) for her class. The classroom winners are determined often by less than 5 books. Keep up the circulation, teachers! April will be our last month to have the classroom challenge.
March Madness Book Bracket Winner is GHOST by Jason Reynolds!
We are excited that GHOST won the book bracket challenge from the 18 original books since many of the voters are going to hear Jason Reynolds, who considers himself and writer and a poet, speak Tuesday.
“It's hard to believe in coincidence, but it's even harder to believe in anything else.”

APRIL IS SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH
The Library Challenge form from NPL in which kids can come by the library and pick up a form they fill in with answers from a variety of questions about literature, databases, and even designing a t-shirt that promotes the library. Winners will receive an ipad Mini and the overall winner will get a behind-the-scenes tour of the main NPL with lunch. Also all students who turn in a completed form will have their NPL fines waived!
The Book Mark Competition is always a popular challenge in which students may design a book mark following specific guidelines set by Limitless Libraries.
The forms for these challenges are in the library. All forms must be in by April 27th.
And a last couple of things....
YARN! We've had literally hundreds of dollars of high quality yarn donated to our knitting/crochet group and MakerSpace from the estate of Bobbe Morris, who owned a yarn shop on White Bridge. Thank you to Chelle Baldwin for making the connection.
I earned $500 for the MakerSpace by participating in a PDINGO (professional development bingo) challenge offered by the MNPS library services department during the last quarter. Due to the budget freeze, the money will not be available until next year which gives us plenty of time to think of ways to use the money. Recommendations are welcome!
