Mrs. Fitzgerald, 3rd Grade

February 5, 2016

Hello Parents and Students,

This week in reading we focused on identifying cause and effect relationships, as well as monitoring our comprehension while reading. Next week we will take the unit 4 reading skills test. We finished reading James and the Giant Peach and began watching the movie version. In grammar we continued learning about pronouns and pronoun-antecedent agreement.

In math we learned how to change improper fractions to mixed numbers. We learned how to identify, name, and draw quadrilaterals. We also learned how to divide a three-digit number by a one-digit number.

We continued working on our explorer research projects. All of the groups have done so well and many are already done with their Keynote presentation. We will be sharing our projects with the class next week.

In science we explored movement of objects, including how to describe the movement of an object and relative position.

Tech Museum Field Trip

We will be going to the Tech Museum in San Jose on February 9. This is a great field trip and the students have a lot of fun exploring all of the exhibits together. We will also be watching Humpback Whales in the IMAX theater.

Please wear your spirit shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes. Also, please pack a bagged lunch (no tupperware or glass).

We are still in need of 1 parent chaperone. Please email me if you are interested!

Picture Day

Our spring picture day will be on Monday, February 8. You may have free dress on this day!

Valentine's Day Party

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day as a class on Friday, February 12. Thank you so much for those who signed up for a donation item! Please bring in your item no later than Thursday, February 11.

In addition to some fun Valentine's Day games and treats, we will also be passing out homemade Valentine's cards. Every child should bring Valentine's for everyone in class (24 total). It's up to you whether you would like to make them yourself or pick up some already made at the store.
