Highlights for the Week of Aug. 26-30, 2019
Second Week of School
It has been another awesome week at Don Brewer Elementary School! Thank you for your continued efforts in getting your student's first day packet of papers returned. The blue emergency cards are needed immediately in the front office for communication and safety purposes. We truly appreciate you keeping us informed of any changes in contact throughout the school year.
School Advisory Council (SAC) Meeting - Mon., Aug. 26th @ 3:15 pm in the Media Center.
3rd Grade Promotion Requirements - Parent Workshop
Our first parent workshop is this Tuesday evening from 6 - 7 pm. It is an incredibly valuable workshop for our 3rd grade parents, even if you have had a former 3rd grade student in the state of Florida. We will review the FSA requirements, as well as portfolio and diagnostic data safety nets for your student. Please be sure to join us! You will not want to miss this critical information. You may RSVP below, but ALL are welcomed and encouraged to attend with or without an RSVP.
Tuesday, Aug. 27th, 6-7pm
3385 Hartsfield Road
Parents and Caregivers will gain a better understanding of grade-level expectations and promotion requirements, explore third grade reading standards, and learn strategies to help support their third grader at home. You do NOT want to miss this incredible event!
RSVPs are enabled for this event.
Wednesday, Aug. 28th. More information included below.
Labor Day - Sept. 2nd
Mark your calendars!
Join us Thursday evening! More information included below.
As you have already been made aware, this year's Early Dismissal release time is 1:15 pm. As a result, we will begin dismissal on Early Dismissal dates at 1 pm to ensure all students are released by 1:15 pm. Staff will have required professional development meetings that begin promptly at 1:15 pm, so there will not be staff available to supervise students. Please be sure you have made a note of these dates on your personal calendar and have made the necessary arrangements for your student. Our Extended Day program is open on these dates and students will dismiss directly to this program at 1:15 pm. Our first Early Dismissal of the year is next Wednesday, Aug. 28th.
Thank you for your help this past week! It's running smoother every day because of you. As a friendly reminder, I have left the following procedures below:
- No student arrival until 8:00 am, unless they have been enrolled in our Extended Day morning program or serve as a Safety Patrol. As a general rule of thumb, if you are unable to visually watch your student enter the building safely, they cannot be dropped off yet.
- Any change in your student's dismissal plans must be provided in writing to your child's teacher. Changes in dismissal cannot be accepted over the phone due to student confidentiality and safety.
- If your student is dismissed as a car rider, you must have your white 2019-2020 hang tag, or you will be directed to the front office to have your ID checked by your student's blue card before he/she is released to you.
If you have concerns and/or suggestions regarding our arrival and dismissal procedures, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Gray.
Simple changes in the way we praise our children, as parents, can help support their development of a growth mindset. Check out this video to learn more.
Fundraiser - Kicks off on Wednesday
Our Fall Fundraiser kicks off this week! Your student will be bringing home a packet with our catalog sales information. We will share more information with our families during our Open House on Thursday, but thank you, in advance, for taking the time to review the contents. All money raised will be put directly back into our classrooms to purchase instructional supplies and technology.
Thursday, Aug. 29th, 6:30-7:30pm
Don Brewer Elementary School
Doors will open around 6:20 pm, and you are asked to report directly to your student's homeroom. Our Leadership Team will hold a school-wide meeting via our news channel into your student's homeroom. Following our presentation, the classroom teachers will provide additional information and be available to answer questions. Many guest vendors and family resources available in our neighborhood will be present in the "Brewer's Best" hallway, should you be interested in speaking with them. They will provide awesome resources for you and your family.
RSVPs are enabled for this event.
Your partnership and support is an integral part of our success. We need YOU! Please complete the required volunteer application and reach out to Ms. Gray to find out what you can do to continue making Don Brewer and your student so successful!
