Miss Brown's Bulletin
Week of September 28-October 2
Leader of the Month
Our Leader of the Month for September is...(drum roll please)...TAYLOR B! Taylor B. is a leader in many ways. She comes to school on time, she is always prepared for the day, she always completes her assignments and goes above and beyond to challenge herself while doing them. Taylor B. is always the first one to help a friend, always gives 100% at everything she does, and is just all-around awesome!
Thanks for being such a great leader! Keep up the great work!

Literacy Luau
The Literacy Luau is THIS Monday, September 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Cartmell. Come to learn more about our school, your kiddos goals and for a free meal!
Third grade parents and students will begin the night in the cafe where you will enjoy a presentation on standards based grades while you enjoy your meal. After you will come to the third grade hall where you will visit 3 stations. There you will learn how you can help your child as a reader, strategies your kiddo can use to better understand what they read, and what AR, Compass and STAR are/how they're used here at Cartmell. After there will be a presentation in the library where you may sign for a library card.
We hope to see you there!

Fall break october 5-9
Parker & Jack
The boys passed their pre-assessment and mid-unit formative so they were assigned an author study. Ask your kiddo about what they shared.
Crazy Hair Day
Room 305 has gone crazy! Thanks to all who participated Thursday!
Ell & Parker
Synergizing as they work on their problem set in math. Ask your kiddo who their North math partner is!
Yearbook Cover
For the 2015-2016 I am looking for an awesome drawing for the cover of our yearbook. The theme is about being yourself, trying to be the best you possible, and inspirational quotes will be throughout the book. The cover needs to fit the theme, have Cartmell Elementary and 2015-2016 on the cover. These are the only requirements. Kiddos are also encouraged to make it colorful as this will be our cover and we want one that really stands out!
Entries are due on September 29.
We are learning to...
Reading
In Reading we will be learning how to ask and answer questions when reading both nonfiction and fictional passages.
Math
Students are still studying multiplication and division. We will learn how to apply the commutative and distributive properties to solve multiplication and division problems.
If you notice, the formatives your child have completed in Math are labeled Topic A, Topic B, etc. Engage NY (the curriculum we use for Math) groups lessons in unit in this way as those lessons focus on particular skills. We found an excellent newsletter resource online that gives examples of what your child will be learning for each set of lessons for the given Topic. These will come home in homework folders as we wrap up a topic and get ready to begin a new one. Please be looking for this.
