Bishop Woods Weekly News!
From the Home Office of Mrs. Natalino - Week of 3.29.2020
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying some time with your children. While our focus as an institution is education, our focus as a family is everyone's health and well-being. That is what comes first. As you are aware, this Monday, March 30th, we will transition to online learning. Our goal is to continue to engage our students in learning, and to alleviate as much stress as possible on parents that are working hard to support their children at home.
Please know that even though we are not physically in the school building, education is continuing for Bishop Woods. The learning curve is steep for all of us as we transition to a different platform for engaging your children. Our teachers have been working so hard to learn new online tools, and we even engaged in our first virtual staff meeting! We also distributed 323 devices to prepare your children for the start of online learning, so it is evident our families are committed to this process as well...thank you!
Below are some highlights of what you can expect for week one of online learning:
- Check-Ins: Bishop Woods staff will be contacting families to check in...we are most concerned about your well-being! Please let us know if there is anything you need. Please note that breakfast and lunch will continue to be distributed from 9-12 each weekday at Bishop Woods and most other New Haven Schools. You can pick up from whichever location is closest to your home.
- Google Classroom Codes: Teachers will be sharing Google Classroom codes and explaining how to access this tool. I have also included some guides for parents in the next section of this newsletter.
- Teacher Support: Teachers will be available from 9am-1pm to support students and parents each weekday. Contact information will be posted on Google Classroom.
- Morning Announcements: School-wide announcements and morning meeting with homeroom teachers will take place at 9am each day. This is an opportunity for your child to start his/her school day in a familiar way, and for the class to engage in discussion with one another. As often as possible, have your child sign in to Google Classroom with their homeroom teacher at 9am.
- Imperfection!: There will be mistakes and that is okay! The learning curve will be steep for our staff, students and parents. We must all have patience. We will get better with practice! We are all in this together and we will make it work best! I do not want any of us to have extra stress added at an already difficult time.
Lastly, if you have any trouble with your device, please reach out to our technology facilitator, Ms. Sirico at jamie.sirico@new-haven.k12.ct.us or 860-391-6297. Please be patient, as there are many families asking for assistance, and just one Ms. Sirico (who we are very lucky to have!)
