Message from Principal Doyle
Our Pre-med, Health, and Engineering Program is one of a kind. This unique program provides students with unique learning opportunities through hands-on learning experiences, field trips, and guest speakers. Our unique program provides students with many opportunities to earn high school credits in math, science, social students, and electives. Several new classes were successfully introduced over the past few years, including environmental science, Research Topics in Science, Oceanography and more.
Just a few of the exciting opportunities our students experienced over the past few years include meeting the Joint Chief of Staff, Admiral Grady, the 2nd highest ranking military official, who came to Blair to judge a STEM competition. Students created towers that had to hold a can of corn with 30 sheets of paper and a roll of tape. Students in our journalism class created skits and performed in front of Nikisha Williams, who plays Eliza in Hamilton. She then performed Burn for all our 6th grade students. Our students visiting a base camp, via Zoom and spoke to scientists that were performing research at a glacier located in Norway. They visited Paradise Creek Nature Park, which was an amazing experience for our students and had to use dichotomous keys to identify organisms found at the Nature Park. An Athletic trainer spoke to our students about NFL player injuries, met a biomedical engineer from Hampton University, and heard from a local, small business owner about turning recycled materials into purses, and bags. This week, an ecotoxicology will talk to our students about public health and our students even made a podcast discussing health indicators about the Chesapeake Bay.
We won 1st place in the LEGO Competition, Our SCA was awarded the Virginia Student Council achievement award last year, one of 27 student councils to receive this prestigious award. We have previously won the Underwater Robotics Competition, and each year commit to several community-based projects. We currently have over 20 clubs, and a very successful athletic program.
For our families here, we are proud of the partnership we established with our community. As a school we make ourselves available and listen to your needs to better serve our students. We are active on X, Facebook, and Instagram, so please check them out to see our commitment to our staff, students, families, and community. We continue to be a leader in education and teaching because of our relationships with our community. Invest in Blair and you will enter into our family for the next 3 years.
