April Is Autism Awareness Month

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex, lifelong developmental condition that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. The Autism experience is different for everyone. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is often referred to as a “spectrum condition” that affects people differently and to varying degrees.

While there is currently no known single cause of Autism, early diagnosis helps a person receive resources that can support the choices and opportunities needed to live fully.

For addition resources please visit autismspeaks.org.

Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Rebecca Hemminger

Every week we will shine a spotlight on one of our very own Hometown Staff members. This week we will meet Mrs. Rebecca Hemminger.

How long and what grades have you taught?

I have taught for 23 years music and chorus! I have one year of experience in high school and 2 years of experience in middle school. So, most of my experience is in elementary school.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

I would travel to Hawaii again. I have been there twice and just love the perfect climate, gorgeous flowers, and beautiful song birds. Then I would travel to Quebec. That was where my honeymoon was and we also love the culture and history there.

What is the best thing about working at Hometown?

The best thing about working at Hometown is that I get to sing and make music with children every day! I love them so much!

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food is pizza and salads of all kinds. I also love Mediterranean food from lamb to tabbouleh and couscous!

Who is someone you admire and why?

Someone I admire is my mom. Even through her trials and handicaps, she is still filled with joy and peace. She has instilled in me perseverance, hope and a strong faith and commitment to God.

If you see Mrs. Hemminger around the school make sure you say hello!!

Special Person's Day

We will be hosting Special Person's Day on April 28th. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
