Utah PTA Region 10 Legislative Update
Get Informed
HB 175 Sub 3 (Stratton) | Oversight Committee Creation
- This bill has been modified this week so that now the oversight committee can only investigate local entities “upon request of a local governmental entity.”
- However, Local Boards of Education and the League of Cities and Towns are still concerned that this does not go far enough. This bill is still the opposite of local control.
- PTA Position: Oppose (for more info read PTA Resolution EDU 2015-3)
H.B. 264 (Eliason) | Elementary School Counselor Program
- This bill would get MORE COUNSELORS in our ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
- Unfortunately, the mood in regards to this bill may be turning negative. Conservative members are concerned about the potential of “social engineering” with school counselors.
- As parents, we know the value of school counselors and how they change lives and even save lives!
- PTA Position: Support (for more info read PTA Resolution EDU 2017-2)
Get Involved
This is the week that we all need to EMAIL or CALL our representatives about HB 264. Let them know why school counselors are important to you and your family! Also while you're at it, email them about HB 175. Even though it has been watered down a bit, the bill opposes local control. Please let your rep know today that you SUPPORT HB 264 and OPPOSE HB 175! Go to https://le.utah.gov and enter your address to find information about your state senator & representative.

Lakeview Artwork on Display at Artcetra
Come and support Lakeview Art at the Provo Towne center mall! Students from Lakeview were invited to exhibit their artwork at Artcetra, the gallery in the Provo Towne Center mall. This show is titled “We Rise by Lifting Others” and each artwork is about showing kindness to others. Go and take your picture in front of the huge set of wings and see all of the great artwork. The show will be up until the end of February.
