Message From Ms. Backer, Our Principal
Happy Friday Farm Family!
We have finally reached the last month of school. With the arrival of June and the last two weeks of school, your families are going to experience so many different emotions. There might be excitement because you are finished with Emergency Learning Plans. There might be joy because it is finally summer! There also might be fear, anxiety, sadness, and a few tears. These emotions are all understandable. Since March, our school year has changed several times. We are currently waiting to hear more information from the state on the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
However, we do know one thing - your students and families have worked EXTREMELY hard this year. They have encountered and overcome many obstacles. For that, we should all be proud. Next week, we will finish strong with our last week of Emergency Learning Plans. June 5th will be the last day that you will receive new materials from your teachers. For the week of June 8th-June 12th, your teachers have been busy planning some fun end of the school year activities for your students. Please encourage your students to participate as it will provide some social emotional learning for them as we wrap up the 2019-2020 school year.
At this time, after receiving no other nominations,I would like to share with our CFES community our 2020-2021 PTA Board.
Amanda Espinda - President
Haley Perry - VP of Membership
Jessica Bueno - VP of Programs
Evelyn Paddock - Treasurer
Heather Andrews - Secretary
Sandy Mealer - VIE
Again, I want to take a moment to send a HUGE thank you to our current PTA board. They have done a fabulous job supporting our students and staff while organizing the most amazing events!
Michelle Canulli - President, Amanda Espinda - VP of Membership, Jessica Bueno - Secretary, Shawnie Green - VP of Programs, Sheree Scott - Treasurer, and

Undoubtedly, this weekend brings back some pretty powerful memories. This Sunday, May 31st, marks the first anniversary of the mass shooting in Building 2 at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. I'm sure you remember vividly where you were and what you were doing one year ago when you heard the horrific news about the tragedy. Many of us were actually at CFES unaware of the magnitude of this event.
As we gear up for the last two weeks of school, take some time this weekend to hold your family and friends close. Think about, remember, and honor the victims. Try to find some comfort in some shared grief.
Thank you for all of your constant and continuous support! It takes all of us to ensure the success of every one of our Colts!
-Ms. Backer

Let's spread some JOY!
If you need a brain break, don’t forget about our school wide art project. What is collaborative Art? A work of art made by a group of people. Each person makes a part of the project, and once put together it creates a whole.
We will be painting rocks for a school wide project!
Find a few rocks from outside to paint
K, 1st, and 2nd: paint rocks with different colors of blue
3rd, 4th, 5th: paint rocks with different colors of green
Different designs can be painted on the rocks as long as you stick with the color that is assigned to your grade level
Once your rocks are painted, you can take them to the school, and place them in the appropriate box
The boxes will be outside the school and labeled Green and Blue
The boxes will be outside of the school from 5/26-6/5
Once rocks have been collected Ms. Jones will arrange them into a work of art outside the school!
Are You Moving Next Year?

Counselor Corner:
As May comes to a close, we’d like to take this opportunity to recognize our Citizens of the Month for May. Our final trait of the school year was RESILIENCE, and the following students will be recognized on next week’s Colt TV for being resilient. Be sure to watch!
Our Colt Traits remind us that though Christopher Farms Elementary is a building designed for school, our Colts are a community of learners. Their learning is diverse, life-long and happens everywhere. Though we challenge our students to develop their knowledge and skills in reading, writing, math and content areas, we’ve been reminded in these last few months that the social/emotional growth and development and future ready skills we foster through our Colt Traits are equally as important.
Students are invited to watch this week’s lesson reviewing all of our traits and how they have demonstrated each throughout the school year. We hope students will then test their memory with an optional Kahoot game activity.

Art Assignment from Ms. Jones
This week we will be starting a collaborative art project. Collaborative art is made by working together to complete one work of art. We will be creating a collaborative work of art through painting rocks! K-2 will be painting their rocks with different colors of blue, and 3-5 will be painting their rocks with different colors of green. You can paint any sort of design on your rocks, as long as you stick with you assigned color! Once your rocks are dry, you can turn them in to the school. Ms. Jones will have boxes outside of the school labeled by color starting May 26-June 5. Once enough rocks are turned in, they will be arranged outside of the school to make a work of art. If you do not have paint, paint pens or sharpies should work as well. If you do not have those materials, you are more than welcome to choose one of the other projects on schoology! Have fun, and I look forward to seeing all the different rocks that you all create!!
