SHES Sea Turtle Times
May 2022 Newsletter
Welcome to May Sea Turtle Families!
We made it to May SHES families! The last full month of the 2021-2022 school year! THANK YOU parents for your consistent involvement and support! With just 13 school days left in this school year, we still have much to do and are committed to planning and delivering engaging and relevant curriculum while we also complete state testing over the next two weeks. Please continue to encourage your scholar to attend daily, arrive on time and complete their class and homework assignments. Also, most importantly, is to remind our Sea Turtles to follow our Guidelines for Success: Safety First at Safety Harbor, Be Respectful , Be Responsible and Ready to Learn, so they are prepared to take on the added responsibilities of their upcoming grade level. This is the final grading period of the school year, so let’s finish STRONG!
Summer Bridge registration is now open if your child could benefit and keep their learning momentum going, sign up today or call the front office for assistance. Summer Bridge is FREE and FUN! This year it will only take place during the month of June. Summer Bridge includes a FREE breakfast. However, beginning with Summer Bridge, lunch will no longer be free for everyone. Categories for lunches will return to: free, reduced, and paid. Beginning with Summer Bridge there will be a $2.50 charge for lunch or you can apply for Free/Reduced pricing at www.myschoolapps.com. I highly encourage EVERYONE to apply.
Last week and this week we were excited to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2nd-6th). If you haven’t done so already, I hope your family will take an opportunity to reach out to your AMAZING teachers and support staff and thank them for their daily dedication to our students and families each and every day! A big shoutout and thank you to our PTA for making everyone here on our staff feel special with daily treats last week! Special thanks to Mrs. Valerie Brown, our current PTA President, for leading this amazing group of parents this school year. Additional special thanks to the committee leads and volunteers who support PTA initiatives! Everything PTA and our families have done to support our Sea Turtle students and staff have meant the world to us!
As we approach the end of one school year, we begin to plan for the next. We gather and utilize a variety of data and information as we begin the process of creating next year’s class lists. If you would like to provide input into your child’s learning style and classroom environment, please send me an e-mail (palmerce@pcsb.org) no later than Friday, May 13th. While we do not take specific teacher requests, we understand that your prior experiences, successful (or not), would provide additional information in determining the best setting for your student’s success. As with each year, due to circumstances which are out of our control, changes can occur over the course of the summer and into the 10th day of school. Therefore, class lists remain tentative until after the 10 day count. If your child will not be attending SHES next year, or you have an address change, now is the time to contact Mrs. Merz, at extension 2007, with the school they will be attending.
Finally, families, please be sure to check our school calendar to ensure you're not missing any end of year activities! As always, feel free to reach out if needed so together we can continue to make SHES shine! Have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend and I look forward to seeing you around campus!
Ms. Palmer, Principal

Annual ESE Parent Survey is underway.....
It is time for the Florida Department of Education’s annual Exceptional Student Education Parent Survey. Each year, the department surveys parents of students with an individual education plan (IEP) who receive special education services to determine how well schools are supporting their involvement in their children’s education.
If your child receives special education services, make your voice heard. Take the ESE Parent Survey.
Feedback helps the state and the school district improve educational services for children with special needs and their families. The survey is confidential, but Pinellas County Schools receives overall results and improves ESE services based on parent feedback. Thanks to feedback from families, PCS has created the ESE Parent Connector program, which designates a point person at every school to share ESE information and resources with their school communities.
Parents can take the ESE Parent Survey at www.esesurvey.com. A paper survey will be available later in the spring. The survey closes June 30. If you have questions, contact Tracy McMannus at 727-588-6062 or MCMANNUST@pcsb.org.
Student Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Campus gates open and are monitored by adults at 8:15am. Students are NOT allowed on campus prior to 8:15 unless they are enrolled in the YMCA or are participating in a before school enrichment program and/or club. Dismissal occurs at 2:55pm. Please be prompt.
For safest arrival and drop off, parents should utilize the car circle. Parents may also choose to park in the north parking lot or off campus and escort students to an entrance gate or door. For your child's safety, parents should NOT drop students off in the north parking. This is for parent parking only.
Also note, if parking off campus, there are many "No Parking" signs on side streets that surround our campus. These are enforced by law enforcement. Also enforced is the use of designated crossing guards and crosswalks. Please be a good role model and citizen for your child and obey laws applicable to vehicle and pedestrian safety.
Finally, if there is a change in the way your child is going home, the parent must send the teacher a note notifying him/her of the change OR provide the front office with a call before 2:20 pm to ensure the message can be delivered in a timely manner.

K-Kids News - May 2022
K-KIDS was so successful with only being active for 5 months this year. We arranged donations to the Living center of Safety Harbor and made a generous donation of the proceeds from our K-KIDS store to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Thank you to the children and families for your participation in meetings, the running of the K-KIDS store, where we raise all the funds to make these charitable things happen, and to all the officers for their time.
We hope you enjoyed our meetings, the service work and are hopeful this type of mindset with instill a desire to serve in the future. The last meeting will be on May 13th at 7:45 in the Media Center

SHES PTA News
Its amazing that the end of the school year is right around the corner! During the last week of April, PTA celebrated Staff Appreciation Week. Heather Danhour, who heads up the PTA Staff Appreciation Committee, organized such a fabulous week…thank you! SHES teachers and staff were showered with gift bags and succulents, feasted on charcuterie, and enjoyed the grand finale…the Staff Luncheon on Friday! Thank you to every family that sent in a dish, dessert, or drink for teachers and staff to enjoy. And thank you Denise Demko, Hospitality Chair, for organizing the luncheon! Thank you also to all the volunteers who help set up and serve. Our staff and teachers deserve the world, thank you for spoiling them!
Sadly, PTA had to cancel our All-Pro Dads event due to lack of volunteers. We could really use another male volunteer to help lead this program. We’d like to thank Max Bosso for leading the All-Pro Dads event last time! We all know between work, sports, and family life, it can be tough to find time to volunteer. I have been working to create teams of volunteers so that if one person has a commitment, the other can help out. Service is more fun with a partner. If you are willing to help out with the All-Pro Dads program, let us know (its only 4 times a year!).
We are starting to form our Fall Festival committee. We haven’t had a Fall Fest on campus in two years and are ready to bring back this time-honored tradition next year. Fall Fest is our biggest, most fun event of the year, and the most fun committee to serve on. If you have ideas and want to be a part of this fabulous event, join us for a planning meeting on Wednesday, May 11th around 9 am (after morning drop-off) at DayDreamers Café. We look forward to seeing you there!
Remember, you can always visit our MemberHub page to become a PTA member and learn more about us! www.shes-pta.memberhub.com It has been a pleasure serving you this school year!

Kiwanis Student of the Month: Jared Hernandez !
The student I have chosen to receive this award is Jared Hernandez. I chose this student because he demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic and is motivated to help his school community. Jared is an active member of the school’s Student Council and attends monthly meetings to help improve his school. He works well with others and is always willing to lend a helping hand to his fellow classmates. Jared follows our SHES guidelines to success by being respectful and responsible. Jared is an upstanding citizen and deserves this prestigious award.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Szabo
