Winter is Coming!

Greetings Bronco Families!

The 2nd quarter is underway, so much so that our progress reports will be coming out soon. These will be emailed to the primary email address on each student's account, and will be available on Homelink as well.

With the change in seasons, we have some big breaks coming up- including this Friday for Veteran's Day, November 21st-25th, and then Winter Break from December 22-January 9th. Finals are embedded into our bell schedule beginning December 16th for A period, and running December 19-21 for all other classes. Please take a look at the master calendar and plan accordingly- all students take finals. We do not give early finals, and families should avoid scheduling trips early during these days.

We have some outstanding student work to celebrate from the first quarter - be on the lookout for our Celebrations of Student Excellence- coming soon!

November 14th is our 8th Grade Parent Info Night- for all families thinking of coming to Northgate, this is especially tailored towards our families who are coming from private school, or the unassigned Clayton Area, who want to learn more about the school. This is not a night with logistics for those already planning to attend Northgate, but all are welcome! 6pm in our gym.

As always, there is a ton to celebrate on campus, let's hit a few of them!

  • Tonight, Drama I put on their first production of the year, Aliens vs Drama Club. With that, all three levels have produced outstanding shows this quarter, with 'The Blue and the Gray' by Drama 2, and 'Carrie', by Production Workshop. Stay tuned for more news out of the theatre department, and huge thank you to director John Litten!
  • Featured in the lobby of the Jack Deroux Theatre is a new art display, 'Portraits'. Up for a limited time, take a peek!
  • Football has earned a 5th seed in the NCS playoffs, and will be playing Las Lomas on Friday Nov 11th at 7pm at Las Lomas. Congratulations to our players and coaches on their post-season bid- don't miss the playoff game- tickets are available at
  • Boys Waterpolo won the DAL championship! Their success last year placed them in the Open Division for NCS playoffs, and they lost a tough first round game to Campolindo.
  • Girls Waterpolo ALSO won the DAL championship! They won their quarterfinal game against Alhambra this weekend, and play Terra Linda TOMORROW at 4pm at De La Salle! Tickets are available on
  • Cross country competed at the league championships this weekend after a great performance at Mt Sac- On the boys' side, our Varsity boys finished 7th, with Robert Benard receiving a medal at 18th place. JV Boys finished 2nd, and Frosh/Soph finished 3rd. On the girls' side, Frosh/Soph finished third, and our JV and Varsity girls both impressed with a 2nd place finish.

There is so much happening! Keep up by following Northgate High School on Twitter - @northgatehs

Have an excellent week, and GO BRONCOS!

Bell Changes

STARTING TOMORROW: Due to our ongoing tardy issues, we are going to be implementing a 1 minute bell during the passing periods. While each passing period will still be 7 minutes, at 6 minutes, a bell will ring indicating students will have one minute to get to class.

It is our hope with this added reminder that our tardies will reduce.

Intradistrict Transfer Process

The secondary intradistrict transfer application process is October 15th-November 15th. The online application will be up on our webpage on October 15th for students that will be in grades 6-12 for the 2023-2024 school year.

All parents living outside of the Northgate boundairies must apply for intradistrict transfers for incoming students, even if a sibling attends Northgate already!

For families living in the unassigned area, (Clayton), families must apply for placement to Northgate here. Be sure to click on the 23-24 school year!

Online College Information Night- November 9th

From senior Tatiana Advienko:

I am the Vice Chair of the Mt. Diablo Education Foundation’s Student Advisory Committee. We have organized an online college information night on Wednesday, November 9th from 5:30 - 8 PM to be held over Zoom. Our district’s college and career advisors will be discussing how to write college application essays, addressing alternatives to four year colleges, and providing critical info on financial aid/FAFSA/DACA.

We would appreciate it if you could share this flyer (attached below) with students/parents on Student/Parent Square and in your school announcements to encourage participation, especially among juniors and seniors. Reminder to DRIVE SAFELY

Last week, a student on a bicycle was hit on Hutchinson and Walnut by a distracted driver. Several weeks ago we had a parent hit in the crosswalk at Castle Rock and Northgate Rd at night by a driver taking the street too fast.

We are actively working with the city of Walnut Creek to improve pedestrian and bike safety around our school, but please do your part- slow down, always decrease your speed even further at cross walks and look at both sides for pedestrians, do not pass cars on the right, and keep an eye out for bikes at intersections.

Thank you!

A Note from Food Services

California's Universal Meals Program allows every Mt. Diablo Unified School District students receive one breakfast and one lunch every school day in the 2022-2023 school year, at no cost. Students are already set up to receive these meals. No action is needed.

While one breakfast and one lunch are at no cost, additional meals are at full price. Students are being charged the following prices for more than one meal during a serving session:

  • Elementary Breakfast $2.00

  • Elementary Lunch $3.25

  • Middle & High School Breakfast $2.50

  • Middle & High School Lunch $3.50

Please note "Breakfast" is the same serving session as "Brunch" and "Second Chance Breakfast".

We are working hard to procure quality products and creating new recipes that have been well received. More information on this is coming soon. This school year has seen an increase in total meals served throughout the district. Thank you for your support!

Athletics Code of Conduct Reminder

As we get into our Winter athletic season, it is important that we remind our parents and students of the expectations for audiences at high school athletic events. Anyone attending our events is subject to these expectations, and can be asked to leave if they are not followed. We want to create a positive and supportive environment for ALL of our student athletes, our guests/opponents, and both respective coaching staffs as well as the hired officials for the events. The tone that we set especially as a host school is important and sets up a reputation for the school in either a positive or negative light. We want to keep pushing towards athletic excellence with honor, and continue to be sure our parents, students and coaches are doing the same.

Senior Family FAQ's

When is graduation? These dates are given to us by the Concord Pavilion, who has to work around their concert bookings to accomodate 7-8 high school graduations. We likely will not have this date for a couple more months, (we are told January) and will share it as soon as we do. Families planning trips should plan one after June 4th to be on the safe side.

What senior events do we have dates for?

  • Mock Congress- December 7 and 8
  • Finals- December 19, 20 and 21 (A period Dec 16)
  • SENIOR BALL - March 31st
  • Senior Circle Awards Night- Monday May 15th
  • Senior Project- May 24 and 25

TBD- Senior Breakfast and Graduation as well as Grad Night

Senior Portraits- How can I get these done?

Studio 1 is our official photographer. Families can contact Studio1 for a portrait sitting, or can wait until January when studio1 will be coming to Northgate to take all final pictures. Families can also elect to use a private photographer, but must provide a high resolution photo to our yearbook teacher, Ms Barry, in order to be included in the yearbook, senior banner, etc.

Senior Ads in the Yearbook- These are due in January!
