Adult and Community Education
"In The Know" 10/25/16
A Message from the Leadership Team
Thanks to all of you who have helped make the start of Session II a success. All sites have enrolled new students and increased their student count when compared to Session I. In order for our managed enrollment to be successful, we must retain our students and increase student attendance. This is best done by relevant and engaging curriculum focused on student needs. We have seen a lot of great instruction as we travel the district! Look for round 2 of mini on-site training coming to your location soon. We would like to welcome our new teachers and support staff: Dritan Xhoxhi, GGH and BCH; Laura Nichols, BCH; Felicity Benson, LHS; Brenda Zaldivar Claro, PRH; Lisa Brent, LWTC; Michael Carrozzo, BCH; Isabelle Carter, LHS; Carlos Gonzalez, LWTC; Natalia Gomez, LWTC; Heidi Jinkins, LWTC and a big thanks to our current teachers who have been flexible in scheduling.
In addition to starting a new session, we have had a busy week of activities. Dr. Leo Mediavilla concluded his "7 habits of highly successful people" workshop. Students who attended and completed the workshop were given gift certificates (thank you Dr. Leo!) to Shula's, Perkins, and Culver's. What a great way to end a great workshop! Adult and Community Education of Florida held a 3-day, 2-night Best-Practices workshop. Collier County was well represented and all came back with some great new ideas and practices.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES FROM BARBARA BELKOFF
Community organizations are a great place to find helpful resources, places that can help us with sometimes difficult situations. Community organizations depend on volunteers to help provide those resources. ONE of the very real ways to become part of a community is to become a volunteer within that community. You interact, speak and assist those living in your own backyard. Volunteering is a great way to practice our skills and also can be a great way to look for future employment.
So on a weekly basis I will share volunteer opportunities in Collier County.
HARRY CHAPIN FOOD BANK
Help HCFB prepare donations to be distributed! This is a huge distribution center of food donations for families of SWFL Come and Pre-sort, inspect and pack food items and other nonfood packages. Volunteering for the Harry Chapin Food Bank is not complicated, but it can be strenuous. It requires bending, lifting, and standing for a three hour shift.
Interested? Or join with a friend or a small group. There’s plenty of work to do.
