Bauters' Bulletin
January
I can't believe that we are already in our second semester. It has been such a great year, and I look forward to this second half!
Goal Setting
We took NWEA again in December for both Math and Reading. This is typically for teacher use to help with planning and instruction. Students and I will be looking over the data I have compiled to make goals for the second half of the year. It's important to highlight the areas they've made growth, and talk about what we can do next. I talked with them about this, and mentioned I've already made goals myself and look forward to helping each one of them grow and reach their individual goals. I am hoping this will help them take ownership and pride in their education as life-long learners. We will be sure to share our goals with you as well so that you can have an area of focus for homework! Thank you all for your daily support and work at home!
Math
We completed regrouping in addition before the end of the semester, and now we are focusing on subtraction with and without regrouping. This also means that we will start taking 2 minute subtraction tests, as well as addition.
Reading and Writing
We are focusing on Book Reviews in reading. Our goal is to give opinions about books we've read, and find textual evidence to support our statements. In writing, we are talking about topics, stating our opinions, and supporting them with facts and reasons to try to persuade others.
Science
We are studying motion and force within our reading groups. Our discussion will include motion, force, mass, gravity, simple machines, and finally magnets.
Cursive
We have just started cursive. They are so excited and trying their very best. So far, we've done i. The progression goes in like strokes and is as follows: t, u, w, e, l, and b. Here is a chart for future reference. Feel free to practice at home and mark it as spelling!
Scholastic
I will send home a Scholastic Book Order tomorrow for the month of January. If you chose to order, the due date is January 18th. Thank you advance for earning our classroom points to add more books to our library. Here is the link with classroom code: GWMRF.
THANK YOU!
I am so sorry that this is coming to you late, but I wanted to tell all of you thank you for making my holiday special with both the classroom and individual gifts. I am truly blessed, and meant to share my gratitude with you and your child personally, but lost the post-it that had what each person gave me. So, I'm sorry to make this general, but please know that I am TRULY thankful for each and every one of you from the gifts you gave to the support you provide at home. I LOVE this group dearly and look forward to a second semester with each and EVERY child!
