Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
Week of December 13, 2021
Wow! It's hard to believe that we are down to our final days in our current building. This week our semester exams begin on Wednesday.
We have a lot of exciting things planned for the first day in our new building on January 4, including an extensive building tour to help all of our students feel at ease. (We will have an adjusted schedule this day for all students. Please see below for the schedule.) This new space has been designed to maximize opportunities for our students and we can't wait for you to see it! Our dedication and open house will take place this Thursday and we invite you to join us!
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.

Are you a rising senior who missed out on DACC as a junior?
Rising seniors and families - new programs are available at the Delaware Area Career Center tailored specifically for high school seniors. These senior-only, one-year programs take place after the normal school day hours and provide students with required elective credits, 12 points of industry credentials toward graduation, professional contacts, a strong resume, and confidence in their next steps after high school.
Families can learn more about these programs, register for information sessions, and apply online on the DACC website: www.DelawareAreaCC.org/flex
Attention parents of the classes 2023, 2024, & 2025:
Please mark your calendars for Thursday Feb 3rd: High School Educational Options Night
This is the kick off to scheduling for the 2022-23 school year. The program will be virtual. There will be lots of information from the school counselors on the various options for students. Mrs. Sturtevant will have a video and information on College Credit Plus available as well as an opportunity to pick up the CCP information packet. This is a great opportunity to inform yourself and help your student(s) plan for their future.
Have a wonderful Holiday and look for more information on the Education Options Night in the New Year!
Congrats FFA!
Individuals competing included: Mallory Cline (3rd place individually), Olivia Jenkins (4th), Landon Sewell (6th), and Haylie McComas (7th). Mallory and Olivia have earned scholarships to The Ohio State University in recognition of their achievement. There were more than 100 teams and 1200 individuals who competed at some level of this event this year.
At this level of competition, students completed another round of applied practicums and worked together to solve a food product development scenario. In this scenario, the team was asked to develop a snack cracker using ancient and alternative grains, answer questions about food quality and safety, and put together a marketing plan to sell the cracker to their target market.
This level of achievement is unprecedented as only one other school has ever won this event at the state level more than one time in a row, and no other school has ever won more than twice in a row.
Congratulations to these students!
