FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE
In "The Whole Brain Child," Drs. Siegel and Bryson (Dan and Tina, as they call themselves throughout the book) teach us 12 whole brain strategies to nurture our children's developing minds. We learn to teach kids to SIFT through their Sensations, Images, Feelings, and Thoughts so they can focus on and understand what is happening inside when situations arise that are less than desirable. We're reminded to enjoy each other through play, laughter, and shared experiences. The final strategy I'll highlight today is one of the first in the book. We are taught to Connect and Redirect when our children are upset. We connect with their "right brain" through empathy, listening, a story, and validation of feelings, and then redirecting to the "left brain" once our child is more receptive so he or she can determine with us how to make amends.
If these ideas sound interesting to you, you're in luck. D303 is hosting a book study for parents and guardians. You can click here to register. Book pickup is December 9 at the D303 Board Room, and "study sessions" will be offered in late February and mid-March at the Baker Community Center and Fox Ridge LRC during the day and evening.
I hope your Eagles have enjoyed their first few days back after Thanksgiving Break as much as we have enjoyed having them back! Have a wonderful weekend, and let's always remember to: Be Kind, Be Respectful, and Be Problem-Solvers!

IMPORTANT COLD WEATHER & OUTSIDE RECESS INFORMATION
We will be going outside for recess as long as the temperature (with wind chill) is above 0 F and it is not raining. With that in mind, please make sure your child is dressed to go outside on days when it is cold, snowy or windy. Students should bring outerwear to school in a bag to put on before recess. Please make sure they have hats, gloves, scarves, snow pants and boots if they want to play in the snow. Don’t forget to label your child’s outerwear so it does not end up in the Lost and Found.
