Bluebonnet Reading Club Information
Kick-Off Begins This Week
What Is the Bluebonnet Reading Club?
Your student has the list of twenty books in his/her library folder. I will also include the list on the back of this newsletter. The challenge is for your student to read as many of the Bluebonnet books as he/she can read before the end of January. Some of the books will be on his/her AR level, but some will not. Students are allowed to read and test on any of the twenty books. We do encourage them to receive help from home on the books that are above their level.
Students at Ney who read at least five of the Bluebonnet books will be invited to vote on their favorite. Their vote will be included in the votes tallied across the state of Texas. Students at Ney who read at least ten of the Bluebonnet books will be invited to attend a special luncheon with Mrs. Roland in February. Our goal is to have at least ten students who are able to attend this lunch. Let's see if we can reach our goal!
Note...Ney has about seventy Bluebonnet books available for checkout (we have multiple copies of each book). However, we have about two hundred students wanting to read these books. This week, seven students from each 3rd and 4th grade homeroom will be randomly selected to checkout one Bluebonnet book. Beginning next week, all students will be allowed to checkout Bluebonnet books based on a first come, first serve basis. If you child is anxious to begin and is not selected this week, you may also find these titles at our local public library.
What Does My Child Need To Do?
- Read as many of the Bluebonnet books as he/she can read before the end of January.
- Pass the AR test for each Bluebonnet book he/she has read (with a score of 70 or better).
- Record the grade for each Bluebonnet book AR test taken on the Bluebonnet Reading Log (located in library folder) AND on the Bingo board (also in library folder)
- Let Mrs. Roland know when he/she has hit the goal of 5 and/or 10 books read.
