The Importance Of WATER
By Anya Rodgers
How water is used in the body
-Water is the only mineral that we cannot live without. We could only live about a week without it depending on the circumstances before dying of dehydration.
-Water helps regulate body temperature.
-Water removes waste products and toxins from the human body.
-Water distributes essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals to cells in your body.
-Water helps break down or digest the food you eat.
MYTH: Everyone needs to drink 8 glasses of water a day
TRUTH: Women should aim for about 2 - 2.2 liters or 8 - 9 glasses of water, and men for about 3 liters or 12 - 13 glasses a day of any fluid. This fluid does not necessarily need to be water, either.
MYTH: Drinking water can help keep your skin moist
TRUTH: Unless you are severely dehydrated, drinking large quantities of water will not keep your skin from being dry. The smoothness of your skin is determined my external factors such as skin cleansing and the environment you are in, not internal factors like water consumption.
Two ways to deal with dehydration
1. Modern dehydration can be treated with home remedies, but if you have severe dehydration this cannot be treated at home. This requires call for medical attention.
2. Avoid other fluids, and simply drink water. Avoid milk, clear broths, tea, Jell-O, and ginger ale. Avoid sodas and coffees with caffeine and juices with sugar because sugar and caffeine both further dehydration.
