TARDY SWEEPS - Every Day @ ARSA
Maximizing Every Instructional Minute!
- Please continue to remind students that on time arrival is key. They are to walk with purpose, no running.
- Do Now's are to ready for students every period - focused on either reviewing data from low DOL Data or preparing students for the content of the day.
- Release students on time: A.K.A. - Do Not hold students - this is NOT a discipline measure. The only time students can be held briefly is when you are walking them to lunch.
- Actively monitor by your door and surrounding area.
- Do Not close doors before the bell rings. I am repeating that Do Not close doors before the bell rings.
- I do not want to see this on any floor in the building. The bell rings, then doors are closed.

Teachers that have 2nd period off, please monitor the halls during transition (too and from 2nd period) because your peers will be shifting to their assigned rooms on other floors and then having to transition back to their hallways once the survey is over 2nd period. Spotlight on ARSA's Heart!
We have so many teachers and staff members who support our scholars to experience "school" beyond the walls of ARSA. The experiences our scholars have is expanded when teachers and staff sponsor a club or organization or create a new one, coach a sport, expand what is being taught in the classroom to after school events/competitions/field trips, build awareness of national/local initiatives, or take time out of their day to stop and listen to their our students - a listening ear is powerful. We build relationships with students when we extend ourselves in these ways and that is what makes time spent here memorable. All of this being done after a full day of teaching and work! My hats off to you all!
That is the beauty of ARSA, we offer so many opportunities for our scholars to experience beyond the traditional idea of school. It only happens when adults give of themselves beyond what is written in their roles and responsibilities and I am always so THANKFUL AND APPRECIATIVE this is the heart of ARSA. We rally for our scholars and that is phenomenal!!
Another spotlight I would like to share is the way our staff stepped up on Friday when we had many classes to cover! Way to go and we had more help than we ended up needing...that was a wonderful place to be!! Our tardy numbers were down as well!
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!!! Thank you ARSA Family!
Spotlight on Moody Gardens Teamwork!
This is a long spotlight, but there are SOOO many people to thank for the success of our recent science field trip to Moody Gardens!
-I want to start with my co-sponsor Ms. Romero for sharing the responsibility of all the paperwork and all the stress that comes with planning a field trip, and being the liaison between the school and Moody Gardens! Neither of us had ever been in charge of planning a field trip, but I think we did pretty good for our first time :)
-Ms. Burns, for being our go-to person with any questions we may have had. From itinerary templates to parent meeting agenda powerpoints, she was willing to share all her knowledge from past field trips so we didn't have to start from scratch!
-Ms. Parada, for answering 1 million questions through this whole process, securing our buses and speaking with the Moody Gardens representatives personally when we ran into problems! Ms. Parada really is Superwoman, if y'all didn't know:)
-Ms. Quintana and Mrs. Burks, for heading up all the fundraising efforts!
-Ms. Nix, Ms. Taylor, and Ms. Linwood, for all the support emotionally and financially when we needed it the most!
-The entire science department (Ms. Romero, Mr. Smalls, Mr. Kattan, Ms. Lee, Ms. French, Ms. Burns, Mrs. Burks, Ms. Quintana, Ms. Williams, Mrs. Hawkins, Ms. Nix), for being 100% on board, from finding kids to attend, collecting permission slips and money, to chaperoning 18 hours all the way to Galveston, teamwork really does make the dream work!
-Ms. Hudson, Ms. Thomas, and Ms. Salazar, for stepping in at the last minute to help chaperone!
If I missed anyone, PLEASE charge it to my head and not my heart, because we really could not have done it without all of you! :)
Spotlight on Moody Gardens Teamwork: Quintana, Smalls, Salazar, Hawkins, French, Hudson, Thomas

Spotlight on Ms. Ward & Ms. Romero
I’d like to send a Giant Thank You to Ms. Ward and Ms. Romero for their hard work in organizing our Science trip to Moody Gardens last weekend! Both students and teachers and parents had a great time. The trip was flawless and everyone is looking forward to next year! Great Job Ladies!!
Spotlight on Ms. Hilliard and Mr. Bables
Thank you both for your diligence, teamwork mentality, and positive attitudes! Your commitment to our scholars and the safety of our campus is greatly appreciated and has been present since day 1. Your contributions to making ARSA awesome, do not go unnoticed. Thank you for all you both do daily!
Spotlight on Mr. Gerrity
Mrs. Crabtree writes:
Mr. Gerrity is my hero. He removed a snake out of the girls restroom Friday on the main hallway. He waited for all the girls to be cleared out, and without hesitation he went in. With only his bare hands, he caught the snake and removed it. Me and all the girls who use or has hall duty close to this restroom thank him. Mr. Gerrity you are a real TEAM player.
Spotlight on Math Department
I would like to Spotlight the 7th grade Math Team. Ms. Ballard, Mr. Hoff, Ms. Christopher, Ms. Klein, and Ms. Calk, for the dedication to our scholars here at ARSA. From the 4th Common Assessment to the Mock STAAR, they raised their student achievement score 43 points. From small groups to after school tutoring the 7th Grade Math team has really gone above and beyond to make sure ALL their students are successful.
You guys rock!!
Mr. Smyth
Spotlight on Mr. Gardner
Mr. Gardner has been an incredible asset to the 8th grade US History team. He is continually trying new things and pushing his classes to the limit! Always lending a helping hand and finding new resources for us to use. Couldn't do it without you!
