A Message from Ms. Colon
Dear Mary Williams Families:
Amazing things continue to happen at our school. This past week we celebrated the hard work of our volunteers by hosting a breakfast. We are extremely grateful for all the things they do to support learning at our school. This year we had over 50 volunteers come to our school to help with instruction, read, assist with copies and support teachers. We are fortunate to have them.
Our students are doing great on the SOL's! I am very proud of their hard work. As we conclude state assessments we will be sharing their performance with you. Official scores will be mailed during the summer months. Feel free to contact our school with any questions.
The pool is open and students are enjoying the weather. Feel free to take a book to engage in some summer reading. I have my list ready and will be sharing my progress on social media. I look forward to hear about your titles.
Honored to be your leader,
Mrs. Colon
Birthday Policies Reminder
As part of the Virginia Healthy Initiatives, sweet treats for birthdays are discouraged. Children love to get pencils, erasers, and stickers, which are a much healthier option over cupcakes. If you do choose to bring your child’s class a birthday treat, we ask that it be peanut and tree nut free, sealed, and store bought with an ingredient label. All items must be checked in at the office and be served during lunch. Please contact your child’s teacher or the school nurse if you have any questions.
What can you do to support your child with positive behavior?
Review the Code of Behavior with your child.
Ask your child about his/her day at school every day.
Keep in touch with your child's teacher
Encourage your child to use appropriate language and tone.
Practice positive phrases with our child, such as, “Thank
you,” “Excuse me,” “Please,” and “I’m sorry.”
Be a visible part of your child’s school day. Attend PTA and school events.

Camp Invention
We’re building the future, one thinker at a time. Camp Invention will be hosted at MWES this summer! Each day, campers work in teams as they rotate between four fun thematic modules. Each module brings new challenges to build upon what was learned the previous day. Just imagine what your child could experience:
- Collaborate to build prototypes, following the example of National Inventors Hall of Fame inductees.
- Upcycle and re-engineer with gears and gadgets, developing critical-thinking skills and creativity.
- Explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) enrichment, motivating a group to develop solutions to real-world problems.
Camp will be led by Ms. Thomas, our Instructional Technology Coach. Don't miss the fun.
