Firebird Flash
January 6, 2017
Proud To Be Your Principal
Happy New Year Firebirds! Hope you had a fun, relaxing break and are ready to wrap up the 2nd quarter of the 2016-2017 school year! A reminder that the quarter ends on Friday, January 20, and that there is no school that day.
With the illness that often accompanies this time of year, please remember to call the Attendance Line so your child is not marked Unexcused (715-356-5206, and press 1). Each students get 10 "family excused absences" during the school year, so if your child has a medical appointment, please bring a note to have the absence medically excused (rather than it going towards your 10 family absences). Attendance is so important for the success of your child, and our school is better when your child is present!
Stay warm and have a great weekend!
Proud to be your principal,
Brent Johnson

Oneida County 4-H
4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H is about having fun, learning, exploring and discovering. In 4-H, young people make new friends, develop new skills, become leaders and help shape their communities.
4-H gives youth a chance to pursue their own interests – from photography to computers, from building rockets to raising sheep. In 4-H clubs, youth serve as officers and learn to conduct meetings, handle club funds, and facilitate group decision-making. In a growing number of communities, 4-H youth serve as youth representatives in municipal or county government or as members of Teen Courts. They give back to their communities. 4-H members get involved in volunteer projects to protect the environment, mentor younger children and help people who are less fortunate.

Inga Lami
Join with women of all ages to celebrate the spirit of Inga Lami! Enjoy delicious Norwegian food, local music, and an evening luminary ski at Minocqua Winter Park on Saturday, January 21.
This year we are inviting women and girls, ages 10 and up, for an afternoon of activities. Take a few runs on the tubing hill before enjoying hot drinks, appetizers, and local music in the chalet. A guided luminary ski will be offered in the evening. Bring your skis, snowshoes and a friend! Rentals for skis and snowshoes are available at a discount. Novice skiers and snowshoers are welcome.
Space is limited in the naturalist and art groups so sign up early! Cost is $35 which includes ski pass, meal, and entertainment. Registration will cost an additional $5 the day of the event. Go to Minocqua Winter Park's website, or call (715) 356-3099 with any questions.
This is a fundraiser to support the development of non-competitive community programs at Minocqua Winter Park. A portion of the monies will also go to Tri-County Domestic Abuse Program.
