Toyota's Teen Distracted Driver PSA Finalist
The most dangerous time of a driver's life is the initial 6 months after they get their license.
That might change if Elijah Wilborn's award winning PSA gets some much needed attention.
This Mt. Carmel High School student is a finalist in Toyota's Teen Distracted Driver PSA contest.
His short film, titled "Curb Your Distractions," beat out over 1,000 other teen filmmakers from around the country to be one of ten finalists in the contest. From now until April 30, the public can vote on whatever entry they think is best, and the winning film has the chance to be professionally produced and distributed by Discovery Education, the educational branch of Discovery Communications with programming in over 50 countries around the world.
Wilborn's film follows the morning routine of a typical high school student, but with a catch-- all the main distractions are played by real people. A boy makes an alarm noise, while a girl playing a phone follows the main character into a car. Once in the vehicle, the main character is harassed by "distractions" played by real actors.
"Yo, man, what is this seatbelt?" said an actor labeled as "ego" as he unbuckles the main character's seatbelt.
What happens next? Watch the video to find out. Or, perhaps you can just wait-- you might just see a professionally produced version of Wilborn's video sometime soon.
