MEDLIFE: Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere
Are you looking to get involved at UGA? Do you want to give back to the Athens community and third world communities abroad? We are MEDLIFE: Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere. We are a traditionally pre-health organization that aims to fight the effects of poverty locally through community service and fundraising and then abroad through service-learning trips to third world regions. This year we are starting an Education cohort, for individuals passionate about empowering individuals in aspects such as reproductive health, hygiene, and breaking social stigmas (drug use, etc.). These actions would be practiced during MEDLIFE Education abroad trips to places such as Peru, Nicaragua, and Tanzania possibly returning this summer and beyond! We plan to offer events and speakers with experiences relevant to education abroad, particularly to impoverished communities. We are looking for individuals to fill key leadership roles in this new branch! This is all in addition to speakers (ranging from surgeons to medical researchers) and activities related to the medical field. Fill out the form below to learn more!

Global Health Seminar

Global Health Seminar: Air Pollution and COVID-19 in Developing Countries
John McCracken, Ph.D., Global Health Institute, College of Public Health, University of Georgia
Speaker Bio: As an environmental epidemiologist, Dr. McCracken focuses on preventing both infectious and chronic diseases by understanding environmental risk factors. His main research area has been the health effects of household air pollution (HAP) due to solid fuel use, which was estimated to cause 1.6 million premature deaths in 2017, primarily in low and middle-income countries where poor infrastructure and poverty limit access to clean cooking stoves and fuels for around 40% of the world population. This research is comprised of studies of air pollution exposure assessment, implementation of interventions, and associations with a broad array of respiratory, cardiovascular and maternal and child health outcomes.
