Learn More About WCHE Counselor Mr. Dustin Boren During National Counseling Week
We're celebrating and honoring our school counselors February 6 - 10. West Cypress Hills Elementary is very fortunate to have an excellent, caring counselor, Mr. Dustin Boren. Let's learn more about him.
The 2021-2022 school year was his 1st year as a Lake Travis High School counselor and my 19th year as an educator. The last 7 years have been spent at LTHS, where, in addition to serving as a counselor, Mr. Boren taught AP Psychology, various Social Studies classes, and coached football and track.
Before coming to Lake Travis, he and his family lived in San Antonio, Texas. There, Mr. Boren was with John Marshall High School, in the Northside ISD, for two years, where he taught World History, Government, Economics, and coached football. His first five years in San Antonio were spent at Louis D. Brandeis High School (also in Northside ISD.) There, he taught English I and II for one year, and that year was followed by four years of World Geography. He also coached football and basketball there. His career in education began at Spring Branch Middle School and Smithson Valley High School, in the Comal ISD, where he taught Reading, English, Physical Education, Leadership classes, and coached football, basketball, and track. Mr. Boren was with the Comal ISD for five years.
Mr. Boren is a native of Bulverde, Texas, and a graduate of Smithson Valley High School. Upon graduating from Smithson Valley, he attended Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas, where he majored in Kinesiology and minored in English Studies. He was also a member of the football team for four years. Along with his undergraduate degree, he holds a M.Ed. from the University of Texas San Antonio with a concentration in Health Promotion. He then continued his studies at Lamar University, where he completed his internship in Educational Administration in 2014. He ultimately decided to pursue his certification in School Counseling through Region 4 in 2020.
Mrs. Boren, Brandace, is the Head Volleyball Coach at LTHS, where she also teaches Physical Education. They have two children, Brody and Blakely, who are WCHE Tigers. Brody is a 3rd grade Tiger, and Blakely is 2nd grade Tiger.
All of our Tigers love Mr. Boren, and we are all very thankful that he joined Team Tiger this year.
Good News from Mr. Ouellette!
We are starting the 2023 school year off in a great way.....with improved attendance!
We are very excited and pleased to report that the number of students attending school each day has been at an increased percentage. Our school is an amazing place that only gets better when all of our students are present.
Yesterday, 2/6/23, we had 96.07% of our students in school! We did, however, still miss 23 of our friends who were not in school. Today, 2/7/23, we have 95.89% of our students in class! We miss the 24 of our friends who were not present today. We hope everyone is feeling well soon and can return to class as soon as possible. We miss our Tigers when they're not with us!
As we move through February, it is important that students are in class every day. We have student holidays next week, and it is crucial that we have students in class. Please do not extend a student's break by taking days off before or after the break as these are days our instruction has been strategically planned to prevent an interruption or delay in continued learning.
Thank you again to all the WCHE families for making this school such a special place by having almost all of our students present for learning each day.
