Denton ISD high school theatre students and directors had the opportunity to attend the Texas Thespians State Festival, November 21-23 at the Gaylord Texan Convention Center in Grapevine. Each year, Texas Thespians hosts a state-wide festival including over 8,000 delegates. As one of the largest annual Thespian festivals where theatre is everywhere, students and their troupe directors celebrate an entire weekend of theatre that includes performances, competitive events, and college auditions.

Braswell HS and Denton HS theatre troupes both earned the honor of Texas “All Star Troupe” based on community service, community outreach, production history and company/school traditions and culture. Congratulations to the 26 outstanding theatre students that received a Superior rating at Texas Thespians and are National Qualfiers.

National PTA's Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. The theme for the 2019-20 program year is Look Within. Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.

This year, Denton ISD had almost 350 entries from 26 campuses participate in PTA Reflections program. The schools advanced 142 student works across all six PTA Reflection Art Categories and Grade Divisions. Artwork will be displayed in the North Denton Library during winter break, Sunday, December 22 through Friday, January 3rd.

Special thanks to Angie Morse, Denton Community Council of PTA's Vice President of Arts in Education. Congratulations to these DISD students that advanced from their campus to the district-level contest. Students advancing to State Level contest will be announced in January.

The Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE) National Conference is an annual event occurring in a different city each year, bringing together music educators and clinicians over the course of four days and culminating in the performance of singers selected to participate in the National Choirs. There are four audition-based OAKE National Conference Choirs, each led by a nationally renowned conductor. Accepted singers will learn and memorize the music at home with their own teachers before going to the conference city. Denton ISD is proud that seven DISD 5th grade students have been selected for the OAKE National Children's Chorus. They will be representing Denton and the State of Texas at the OAKE Conference in Portland, OR on March 7.
