Counselor's Corner - Core Essentials
On Tuesday, all Rennell Redhawks met with Mrs. Searby in large group to learn about our Core Essentials word of the month. Students learned about taking INITIATIVE: Seeing what needs to be done and doing it. All students discussed ways they can take initiative at school and at home. Encourage students to see opportunities to help everywhere they go.
Car Rider
We've gotten faster and faster at car rider as our Redhawks have learned their car numbers and our procedures. Remember that parents need to be in the car rider line by 4:15. If your number is not taken by Mrs. Keating and you join the line after 4:15, you will need to park, come into the building, and sign out your child. Remember to bring your driver's license! We are moving much faster now and foresee the improvement in speed to continue!
Watt Watchers
Watt Watchers of Texas will be here at Rennell coming soon to classrooms! Student patrol groups will be auditing the school for energy waste in the form of building lights. In a typical Texas school, lighting alone can account for 1/3 of the entire utility bill. Watt Watcher groups of Texas has assisted hundreds of schools in reducing this cost. Watt Watcher energy patrols have saved participating schools around the nation from hundreds to thousands of dollars in energy costs each year! This program is a proven method of teaching energy efficient habits while reducing school electric bills. Our energy future depends on decisions students will make about energy use. Watt Watchers gives them the opportunity to make a difference now by doing something positive for their school. These students can often show increased self-esteem, leadership and responsibility back in their classrooms. It also teaches students to be good stewards of our natural resources and to empower them to be excited about energy conservation and environmental responsibility. CFISD ranks 4th in energy efficiency within the Region IV area. Electricity counts for 71% of the budget costing approx. 14 million a year. We are very excited about hosting this program and your students are ready to patrol!
Chromebooks and Wifi Available for Check-out!
In the library, Google chromebooks are available this school year to students in Grades 2-5 who do not have devices or wi-fi at home! Please just remember to turn in your child's signed "Lending To Learn" form to your son/daughter's homeroom teacher. Remind your son/ daughter to ask their homeroom teacher to put their name on the waitlist. Students can practice Math/ Reading games that will improve their skills. Instructions on how to set up the w-fi, chargers, a Google Chromebook, and a list of suggested websites will be provided inside the bag. All materials will be passed out on Thursday afternoons and should be returned promptly to the library on Thursday mornings the following week to ensure that the next set of students on the waitlist receive them. Please help your child store the chromebook in a safe place. We are proud to offer this service to the community!
