What's Happening at the J

Shout Outs

Way to go J students and staff on blowing our fundraising goal out of the water during the first annual Honor Flight Coin Drive! Raising over $3600 is not small feat, but Jefferson Jaguars have once again proven that we can exceed our goals when we all work together! Thank you to all who donated to the cause as well as those who coordinated all the behind the scenes efforts!

Out and About

Last week I had the chance to visit quite a few classrooms. As expected, there was a lot of great teaching and learning going on! Our 5th grade ELA students were pre-assessed in preparation for their upcoming non-fiction unit. 6th grade writing classes are working on persuasive writing.

One of the most exciting thing I saw last week was the level of engagement while 6th grade science students got acquainted with the PLTW Launch materials. Although getting started with PLTW has had its share of challenges, what I saw Friday makes it all worthwhile. When the district was considering this program, a group of teachers and administrators went to a conference where the Governor of Missouri spoke about his endorsement of PLTW. He talked about how he would walk into Missouri PLTW classrooms and the students were so engaged that they didn't even acknowledge him. Well, I know I'm not the Governor, but any time I visit a classroom, I'm always noticed by at least a few students. That wasn't the case on Friday! Students were truly engaged in inquiry learning. They were asking meaningful questions and participating in productive dialogue! Awesome stuff!
