Wednesday's Words

March 24, 2021

Dear Parents,

We look forward to welcoming children back to a more traditional school experience on Monday, April 5th. We have been actively finalizing changes to staffing and schedules, making adjustments to school facilities and outdoor learning spaces and shifting our curriculum and instructional plans. We know that this will be a big adjustment for students and families and are doing everything possible to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.

Being back in the classroom with teachers and classmates is exciting for students. We have heard from many parents that their children are looking forward to returning to full in-person learning. At the same time, we know that some children are anxious about what to expect and how their days may look different. This is true for our remote learners as well, who may have classmates returning to school or changes to their regular learning schedule.

During the week of April 5th, our classroom teachers will spend time working on establishing new routines, leading Open Circle and SEL meetings and building classroom community. Teachers are very skilled at helping students’ adjust to new routines and form new relationships. They do this every year in September and have great resources and strategies to help students feel comfortable in new environments!

If you have specific questions or concerns about your child’s transition back to school, or about his/her adjustment to the final phase of remote learning, you may want to share those with his/her teacher during parent conferences this week. Our School Adjustment Counselors will be sharing some tips and suggestions in next week’s Wednesday’s Words and are a great resource if you need additional assistance.

We will be sending out additional information to families next week about bus routes and changes to safety protocols and procedures. We will also be providing an update on Phase III of our District Learning Plans tonight to the Norfolk School Committee. Public access to the School Committee meeting will be done live through NCTV: https://youtu.be/ws_x81cJv1c. Enjoy the rest of your week and the beautiful, warm spring weather!

Sincerely,

Ingrid Allardi

Superintendent

Bus Transportation

Holmes transportation has been working on revising and updating bus routes based on data gathered from our recent parent survey. All students whose parents/guardians indicated that they will be accessing school transportation have been assigned to a bus route. The district will be publishing the new routes on Monday, March 29th. Please note that bus routes are final. We are not able to accommodate any requests for changes to transportation plans between now and the end of the school year. Mid-day kindergarten bus routes will be published later in the week, as we are working to adjust routes to accommodate families that are seeking transportation to and from the Norfolk Recreation K Enrichment program.
