A Message From Our Superintendent

Dear GPISD Parents/Guardians and Families,

This is the time of year parents and educators begin planning for the next year, and though this year has been unlike any other we have experienced, our plans for next year are in full swing. While district and campus staff are giving needed attention to finishing this year on a high note, we are also reflecting on what we have learned this year and using it to improve our systems and processes, as well as finding new and better ways to meet the individual needs of each and every student in our care.

I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for your support during my first year as Superintendent of Schools. This job is everything I expected it to be and more. I am truly humbled and energized to continue to lead Galena Park ISD to greater success than ever before, and working together, I know the sky is the limit for our students.

As I am sure you are aware, the last day of school is scheduled to be Thursday, June 10. We will continue to publish our monthly Parent Newsletters throughout the summer. Please take a moment to read them to stay informed about what is going on in Galena Park ISD.

Again, thank you for your continued support and for choosing to send your child(ren) to Galena Park ISD schools.

Be safe,

John C. Moore, Jr., Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools

The people who serve in these roles do so much for our students and their well-being.

They truly deserve our appreciation for all they do for students, please take the time

to thank them for their service.

Student Advisory Board Podcast-- Episode 4

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board (SAB) was established to provide an avenue of dialogue between high school students who are leaders on their campuses

with District leaders.

Every year, Student Advisory Board members participate in a community service project, but due to the pandemic and social distancing guidelines, the students decided to create a podcast.

For the duration of the 2020-2021 school year, the SAB will be participating in monthly podcasts to discuss mental health and how to cope with the difficulties we have all faced during this pandemic. In this episode, the students had an important conversation about kindness, and what that looks like in our elementary and secondary schools. Check it out to view interviews with Woodland Acres Elementary School Counselor Ms. Charlene Marsh and North Shore Middle School Counselor Ms. Danna Moten share their unique professional perspectives on kindness in our elementary and secondary schools!

Thank you, SAB, for bringing awareness to the importance of mental health.
