- Student Placement: 2018-19 student placement postcards will be mailed on August 1, 2018. Stayed tuned for InfoSnap information.
- Grade 4 & New Family Scavenger Hunt: On August 16, 2018 we invite incoming 4th grade students and new families to join us for a scavenger hunt! This self-guided scavenger hunt will take you all around the school as you stamp your passport along the way. Feel free to visit us anytime between 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. Please enter and begin your scavenger hunt in your student's assigned community office.
- Parent/Guardian Orientations: We would like to invite parents/guardians to join us for parent orientations at 6:30 PM in the DAIS Auditorium during the following dates:
- Grade 4: August 20, 2018
- Grade 5: August 21, 2018
- Grade 6: August 30, 2018
This will be an informational orientation and an opportunity to meet DAIS Administrators and grade level teachers.
First Day of School: The first day of school is August 23, 2018. Students are expected to arrive between 8:15 - 8:30 a.m.
DAIS PTO Meeting: Join us for the DAIS PTO meeting on September 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Enter at the flagpole entrance.
No School: September 3, 2018: No School (Holiday)
Grade 4 & 5 Instrumental Guidance Nights: Interested in trying out a band instrument or getting sized for a string instrument? Students in Grade 4 & 5 are invited to join us for our annual Instrumental Guidance Night on September 11 & 12, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
Fall Picture Day: Fall Picture Day will be held on September 17, 2018. Look for information to come home with your student(s). (Picture Retake Day: 11/5).
Transportation
Student bussing information will be accessible through the Home Access Center (HAC). Parents/guardians will receive information on how to access the HAC through the district website. As a reminder, please contact the transportation department with any incorrect information, or if your student(s) require any special exceptions.
DAIS PTO Challenge

Career Pathways for Exploration
On Friday, May 4, grade 5 students participated in the annual DAIS Career Day. Our family volunteers came in to present information pertaining to their specific careers using a variety of presentation methods including power points and hands on demonstrations. Some of the different presenter careers showcased were engineers, financial advisors, attorneys, physicians, interpreters, teachers, law enforcement, musicians, military, hairstylists, real estate agents, and many more.
Additionally, 100 Grade 6 students had an opportunity to visit York County School of Technology on May 10, 2018, to expose students to the technical programs offered in the local area aligned to student interests and career opportunities in a variety of areas. The program included a half-day visitation of the selected programs followed by a question-and-answer session.
Grade 6 students also participated in their JA BizTown Field Trips, exploring careers and economics.
Envirothon
Congratulations to the DAIS Envirothon Teams. The three 4th grade Envirothon teams placed 1st, 2nd, and 14th overall out of 76 teams and 1st in Forestry, 1st in Wildlife & Aquatics, and 1st in Hats. The 5th/6th Grade Envirothon teams placed 2nd in Current Topics and places 4th, 9th, and 12th overall out of 63 teams. Congratulations to the DAIS Envirothon Teams on an outstanding competition!
24 Game Math Challenge
DAIS sent 12 students to the LIU12 MATH competition where 9 of the students participated in the semifinal round and Noah Miller, a grade 6 student, brought back a silver medal to DAIS.
DAIS Track Meet
Spring Music @ DAIS
We would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of the DAIS students and faculty in another successful year of Spring Music Programs. The musical talent at DAIS is astounding and we are very proud of their efforts. Congratulations orchestra, band, and chorus on your outstanding performances.
STEAM & Technology
First Lego League
Our FIRST Lego League and 3D Design Challenge teams had amazing seasons this Spring! Our two FLL teams competed in February at Penn State Berks. They coded robot missions, completed a research project, and participated in team building activities surrounding Hydrodynamics.
3D Design Challenge
Our five 3D Design Challenge teams competed at the LIU in early May. The teams worked together to Cross the Great Divide designing a zip line carrier, creating a bridge, and constructing a paper airplane to hold cargo. We are very proud of teams for their work and our top brought home fourth place out of 15 teams.
DELTAs
Representatives from the DAIS Delta team participated in the PAECT Student Technology Showcase at the Pennsylvania Capitol on April 30.
Spring Conferences ~ Art Show ~ STEAM-tastic Family Night
On Monday, May 7, DAIS students led their parents/guardians through Spring Conferences! 4th and 5th graders ran a portfolio style conference, while 6th graders hosted a “take your parent/guardian to work” style conference. Families were invited to view the amazing student-created art work throughout the building and participate in African themed art activities and STEAM challenges including Bess beetle pulls, erosion activities, green screen pictures, body systems, virtual reality, innovation stations, garden, First Lego League, 3D printing, and more with their STEAM Passport!
