A letter from Mrs. B

Hello and happy Friday! We made it!!

It’s been a great week, but a long week for everyone!! Getting back into a routine is tough after being off all summer! I saw many students with complaints of headaches, stomach aches and especially tiredness. Lack of good sleep can really play havoc on both our minds and our bodies. Below is a table with general guidelines for bedtimes by age.

National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month is in September. This month is all about educating children and their families on how to prevent childhood obesity. Did you know that more than 12.7 million American children have obesity — that’s almost 20% of all children ages 2 to 19! It's been proven that children who are overweight are much more likely to be bullied than their normal-weight peers and also more likely to have mental health issues and suffer from depression. Childhood obesity is a serious health problem in the United States. 1 in 5 children and adolescents in the US have obesity. Some groups of children are more affected than others. Many factors can contribute to excess weight gain including behavior, genetics and taking certain medications. But societal and community factors also matter including access to healthy affordable foods and beverages, safe and convenient places for physical activity, and a supportive school environment.

Student Expectations

Parents - we love seeing and enjoy hosting you and your children at our extra curricular activities. We appreciate your support. Please help by having a conversation with your children that they are staying in appropriate locations during contests and supporting the teams they are playing. Also we expect an adult to be with any students 6th grade or below that are at activities.

Activities in the gym - please help us by reminding your students that they should not be going in front of the scorer's table during volleyball or basketball games.

They should also be staying in the gym OR gym lobby and not walking the halls, in the RAC, or in classrooms.

Football games - having footballs and playing "touch" football is part of the experience growing up when attending football games. We embrace that. However we do not want, nor will tolerate, tackle football. Also there should not be footballs being thrown close to the north or south end zones as there are spectators in this area AND we do not want balls close to the playing area.

Thanks for your support and understanding - hope to see you at our extra curricular activities!
