Reflections from the week of 2-7-16
Student Appreciation week was awesome. Our students were so appreciative of the treats we provided last week. To observe the smiles on our students’ faces, to receive hugs and hear, “I feel appreciated” or “thank you,” brought joy to my spirit. If you were deliberate last week in showing our students that they matter, thank you. Remember we set the example for others to follow, and we cannot underestimate the impact we have on our students.
Last Tuesday, several CSISD groups listened to Liz Murray’s story, the "homeless to Harvard” icon. Although her upbringing was sobering, one of her teachers, Mr. Perry played a pivotal role in her path to success. Repeatedly, she talked about Mr. Perry and how he believed in her, had high expectations and held her accountable for her actions. Many of you have been just like Mr. Perry--the rock for our students. Continue living out your passion and walking in your calling. You are a difference maker.
Our Breakfast of Champions speaker and Consol alumnus, Marcus Moore, was dynamic, too. He took our students down memory lane when he was a student at AMCHS, and he encouraged our students to have a will to succeed. Specifically, he said, “In the midst of no, stay focused!” Throughout Marcus’ career, he was told no, but he was persistence, he challenged himself, and he was focused on his future. Currently, Marcus works for WFAA-TV in Dallas.
