Chief Charlo Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Wins 'One Class at a Time' Grant
Caitlin Nogle, a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) at Chief Charlo Elementary
School, is the most recent winner of the “One Class at a Time” grant sponsored by
KPAX and Republic Services.
She told the KPAX news station that she plans to use the $250 grant to buy learning games and toys for use during sessions with students. See Caitin's feature on KPAX!
“I may have a game that is targeted — it’s just a random fun game — but I can also target articulation and then I can target describing with my next group of kids,” Nogle explained. “I can use it as a reinforcer for kids that are using their iPads correctly to communicate. So one toy can go a long way for a lot of different kids’ needs.”
She said she works with about 50 different students, so she is always on the lookout

Garden Build Date (May 20, 9:00am-3:00pm)
The Garden Committee is looking for volunteers to come help us put in the ADA pathways. We are excited to make this happen so all students will be able to get out and enjoy the garden and learn the lessons.
School Garden Lessons
Garden City Harvest Farmer-Educators teach two sets of lessons in Chief Charlo's School Garden each spring and fall. In the spring, Kindergarteners and 3rd graders visit the garden for composting and planting lessons. In the spring, we also offer a 30-minute planting activity for other grade levels. Ask your student if they visited the garden!
Lesson 1: Composting - K & 3rd (May 8th and 9th)
Kindergarten and 3rd-grade students will learn a little about how compost is made and why it is the perfect food for our plants. Afterward, they’ll get the chance to add compost to the garden to prepare the beds for planting in a few weeks.
Lesson 2: Planting - K & 3rd, others grade if time (June 1st and 2nd)
Students will learn about baby plants and planting techniques. During the planting activity, each student will get to do some seeding and work in teams to put baby plants in the ground.
Summer Garden Hours
Garden City Harvest staff will be in the Chief Charlo garden every Wednesday morning this summer. Come visit, help out, learn about gardening, and take home some fresh fruits and vegetables!
Wednesdays, 9am – 12pm
June 21st – August 16th
Summer Garden Volunteers
We are looking for families to care for the garden this summer. You’ll help by opening the garden for a couple of hours during the week, whenever it fits into your schedule. We encourage you to do some light weeding, harvesting, and welcoming the community into the space. Some perks of the job: taking home free, fresh produce, enjoying the outdoors, and meeting friends and neighbors! Interested? Great! Email School Gardens Manager Sarah Rodgers at sarahrodgers@gardencityharvest.org to sign up. Or sign up here! Chief Charlo Summer Garden Volunteers Sign Up Sheet 2023

~ Families in Transition (FIT) Program ~
We Are Here for You!
The Families in Transition (FIT) Program is here to assist Chief Charlo students and families experiencing housing instability (McKinney-Vento Act) and/or economic hardship. FIT works as a bridge between those families, our school and the district staff to empower students to stay in school and remain successful both in school and as lifelong learners. FIT also provides families access to community resources and services.
FIT is here to support your family, because we care about all of our Wolves - BIG and small!!
