Student Incentive
The past few years, we had a kindness chain with goals for students. Reaching the goals resulted in field day rewards. This year we are going to combine our student field day incentive with the parish celebration of the Year of Mary.
There is a huge drawing of Mary located outside of my office, that students will turn into a mosaic. Each time a student does an act of kindness, says a prayer, or forgives someone, they will add a mosaic piece to the art.
Our goal is to have the mosaic finished by the end of the year. And because the art is over six feet tall, this will be challenging. We are hoping for 25% to be finished each quarter.
Please feel welcome to stop by school and see our progress.
Mr. Chad Moeller

PTO Meeting
Come give us your ideas and hear what we are doing. Our first meeting is Wednesday, August 21 at 6:30 pm. We will meet at Izzy’s in the 19th Hole this month.
You Asked, We Listened! ...and we saved $570
Many parents requested that we reuse the red pencil bags instead of providing new ones every year. This year we did just that and saved $570.00
If you have ideas email us at pto@st.louisschool.org
Volunteer Forms
Please remember to turn in the PTO Volunteer Forms (tan or yellow paper). We ask that each family sign up for at least two items in addition to Super Sunday Bingo.
New Partnership/Fundraiser
Dierckman Research, LLC (Diane Dierckman) is establishing a local contact list of individuals willing to participate in consumer research studies. In return, SLS PTO will receive a monetary donation for each person that signs up and also for those people that participate in projects. Each project varies from 1:1 conversations, to small group discussion, expert panels, and product use opinions. “Opt in” by opening the camera on your phone and pointing it on the code below. If you're not sure "how to do that"--just email us & we'll be happy to help. Anyone between the ages of 22-70 years are able to sign up...even friends and family within a 1 hour radius. We can raise up to $1000 just by having people “opting in”!
Trash Bag Sales

Bullying
Bullying – “Sticks and Stones”
It turns out that words actually can hurt you. In a recent study in Psychology Today, scientists found that verbal bullying – the common taunts and ridicule of schoolyards – actually inflicts lasting physical effects on the brain’s structure. In those victims, brain scans show a deficit of connecting fibers across the brains. Meanwhile, victims also report greater anxiety, depression, and drug abuse.
If your child is the victim of bullying, please let us help. Report any issues to a teacher or Mr. Moeller.
Art Room donations
Any donations may be dropped off in the school office, or given to your home room teacher. Mrs. Frey greatly appreciates any items you'd like to send in, and assures us they will be put to good use during the school year. Thank you!
Jr. High Youth Ministry
We are gearing up for another great year in Jr. High Youth Ministry! Each month, the Jr. High of St. Louis Parish are invited to Jr. High Youth Group on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of each month right after school in the SLS Cafe until 4:30, but students are welcome to stay until 5:00 to hang out with their friends.
Our first youth group for this school year will be August 16th after school in the SLS Cafe. We will be starting off with a pizza party followed by some fun introductory games and other fun things to start off the year. You can register for Jr. High youth group online or via paper copy
found on the parish website. Please turn in a registration form before your child participates in any youth group activities. More information about Jr. High Youth Ministries and registrations forms can be found on the parish website at https://stlouis-batesville.org/juniorhigh.
Help Needed!
If you would like to help out at youth group on a regular basis, please consider joining the Jr. High leadership team. It is a 2 hour commitment 2 times per month. Parents, Grandparents, and Guardians are all welcome! If you have a younger child that will need to hang out with us during the meeting, that is perfectly fine, too. All adults will need to have the current Safe & Sacred course as well as a completed background check (within 3 years). To complete the course or to see if you are up to date, log into your account at https://safeandsacred-archindy.org.Carrie Wesseler

Important "FACTS" Grant & Aid Documentation Changes
SLS Parents,
In an effort to streamline the awarding process, FACTS has made the decision to discontinue the ability for families to fax or mail supporting documentation, in favor of requiring documentation to be uploaded as part of the online application process. This change will be effective for the 2020-2021 application year, which begins September 3, 2019.
During the 2018-2019 school year, 96.6% of all required documentation was uploaded directly through FACTS Grant & Aid. It is believed that eliminating the acceptance of paper documentation will increase efficiencies for both families and schools, as it will erase the additional wait time associated with mailing and scanning documents upon receipt.
Should you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact your FACTS customer service representative at 866-441-4637. You may also contact Tina Weber (tweber@st.louisschool.org) or Scott Weekley (sweekley@st.louisschool.org) in the Parish Office (812-934-3204). Thank you.

Breakfast Program
What’s Cooking?
At school, there’s always a meal ready to be served!
Some mornings, it’s tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to the School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards. Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child’s menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!
