Title 1 Announcement
Harrison Parkway Elementary is one of two schools in our district that receives Title 1 funding. Title 1 teachers, Mrs. Redar and Mrs. Milligan will share information about Title 1 during the HPE PTO meeting on September 15.
Families and members of the community are welcome to meet with our Title staff to ask questions following the meeting. If you are not able to attend the meeting, but have questions, feel free to email Mrs. Redar at jredar@hse.k12.in.us or Mrs. Milligan at rmilligan@hse.k12.in.us. Look for more information about our program in future weekly newsletters.
Counselor's Corner
Hi HPE families!
In last week's newsletter, I mentioned that students would be learning about the Four Zones of Regulation. I will be introducing a new zone each week. This week's focus is the GREEN Zone. The green zone is the ideal state of alertness. A person may be described as calm, happy, focused, or content when he or she is in the Green Zone. The student feels a strong sense of internal control when in the Green Zone. Even when they may be in another zone, we want them to try and get back to green.
To stay in the Green Zone, students can:
Smile
Take Deep Breaths
Be a Friend
Think Happy Thoughts
Focus on Work
Practice Mindfulness
Have a great weekend!

Weekend Snacks
Harrison Parkway is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Miss Magill, School Counselor, rmagill@hse.k12.in.us or 317-915-4210.

Notes from the Nurse
Vaccination Deadline-September 1, 2021
Indiana State Law requires each student enrolled in school to have a complete immunization record (or state approved medical/religious exemptions) to attend. Please fax (317)-915-4219 or email vaccination records to the school nurse, Jenny Leonard (jleonard@hse.k12.in.us)
Any student who does not have an up-to-date vaccinations record will not be permitted to attend school after the September 1st deadline. If you are unable to receive the vaccine prior to this date, you must provide the nurse with a scheduled appointment date to receive the vaccines. Emails have been sent out to notify those with noncompliant vaccines. Please check skyward to see if your child is missing vaccines.
Vision Screenings for 1st Grade
Vision screening is required by the Indiana State Board of Health for all 1st and 3rd grade students. First grade will have vision screenings on September 23rd. Near and far vision will be screened with the results being pass or fail along with an additional Modified clinical Technique (MCT) vision screening by a licensed professional. This is only a screening to determine if further evaluation is needed. Parents will be notified only if your student does not pass the screening. If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have them at school the day of the screening for accurate results.
If you decline to have your student screened, please notify the school nurse, Jenny Leonard, via email jleonard@hse.k12.in.us by Monday, Sept. 20th.
Covid Information
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Testing | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
Symptoms to monitor for:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of Breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
