Ridgeview STEM Junior High School

September 4, 2020

From the Principal

Hello Ridgeview families!

As we have concluded a fantastic week with our students, please let me say how proud I am of them for their ability to adapt and adjust to our new expectations. While we experienced a few technological issues to start, that seems to be something we overcome every year. Continue to check in with your students about the work they are completing and reach out to teachers if you have any questions regarding the class. I hope you all enjoy the long weekend and we will look forward to welcoming back Cohort A on Tuesday! REMEMBER, THERE IS NO SCHOOL MONDAY.

BIG BREAKFAST/LUNCH ANNOUNCEMENT!

As of Tuesday Sept 8th, all meals served at Pickerington Local Schools will be FREE. All students can receive a free breakfast and free lunch until December 31st, or until funding runs out, because of an extension granted through the USDA National School Lunch Program. Families who would like to receive these benefits beyond Dec 31st should complete the free/reduced lunch application on the PLSD food service web page. If you are interested in receiving the lunches for 3 days (hybrid) or for all 5 days (VLA) when your student is not present in the building please continue to fill out the google form on Ridgeview's SMORE newsletter that was sent out on Friday to email and also located on our FB page. (Google forms below)

Ala Carte items or extra servings will be available for sale and students will be charged for only those items.

THIS AND THAT

Drop off/pick up.

  • Students should not exit car until 7:00 AM unless Mr. Stiel or Mrs. Richardson give the OK.
  • To alleviate the traffic buildup on Hill Rd., please pull all the way to the yellow sign by the cafeteria doors. This will allow us to let out 5-6 cars at a time.
  • At Dismissal (2:10), please pull up to the curb by the cafeteria entrance.
  • Please do not park in the lot to wait for your child as this creates a safety hazard when the student tries to cross the parking lot.
  • DO NOT DROP OFF STUDENTS IN THE BUS PARKING LOT

Per the Student Handbook

  • No food deliveries from outside places (pizza, Chipotle, etc)
  • Please remind students cell phones should be powered off during the school day. K-8 policy is NO usage from the start of the school day until the end bell. If you need to contact your student due to an emergency, please call the office. We will relay the message or allow them to use the office phone.

TECHNOLOGY ISSUES

  • Please see the Technology Troubleshooting below
  • ONLY SUBMIT ONE HELPDESK TICKET! Please be patient as our technology team is working through a very high volume of requests. Thank you!

DROPPING OFF ITEMS TO YOUR STUDENTS?

  • We realize students occasionally forget items, but as much as possible, please try to ensure your child has their: chromebook, water bottle, mask, lunch/lunch id, supplies before walking out the door.
  • If you need to drop off something, please CLEARLY LABEL it with your student's name.
  • Come to Door A and press the buzzer to explain why you are here.
  • A staff member will meet you at the door to take the item to be dropped off.

Revised Virtual Attendance Directions

Virtual Days Attendance Instructions-Please Review!

Please read this important information on how your child needs to submit his or her attendance on virtual learning days.

Important i-Ready Information

Hello Parents,

The 2020–2021 school year will be different in many ways. One such way is that we’ll be asking our Hybrid students to take the initial i-Ready Diagnostic at school and our VLA students at home. In grades 5-8, the VLA teacher will proctor the assessment through Google Meet. It is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, but after careful consideration, we have decided it is the best way to get information about our students— information that will be critical to help inform our instruction and serve our students well. To do this successfully, all of us need to make this a priority to ensure we get reliable data from our students.

Why are we taking the iReady Diagnostic test?

The purpose of the Diagnostic is not to give your student a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your student’s learning. iReady is an adaptive assessment that adjusts each question based on your child’s answer to the previous question. Some questions will be difficult, some easy, while others will be just right. The questioning is designed for teachers to find out what your child knows right now and what skills they will need.

Note: i-Ready will not be used for gifted identification purposes.

When are we taking the iReady Diagnostic test?

Over the next three weeks, we have designed a plan to administer the Reading and Math tests. The schedule and guidance for families will be shared next week for both the hybrid and VLA students.

Technology Troubleshooting and Password Help

My student can’t remember their password / Their account says it is not active/ Issues logging in to Google accounts.

  1. All PLSD students have a Google Account, their username is their email address, which follows a similar pattern of firstname_lastnameXXX@students.plsd.us (where the XXX is the last three of their student ID#.
  2. If the student is in grades K-4 please try their student ID + 00 as their password.
  3. If the student is in grades 5-12 they have created their own password.
  4. If that password does not work or your student has forgotten their password please fill out this form below and we will reset it as soon possible.
    • *Please only submit the form once per student. Multiple submissions will delay the response or cause more confusion with the passwords.

Frequently Asked Questions from the past week:

Q: My student’s device says “lost/stolen.” What do I do?

A: There are a number of reasons that this might happen.

  1. Are you still currently enrolled in PLSD? Once a student is unenrolled we do lock their PLSD-owned device.
  2. Are you currently on the “Holds” list while the Welcome Center verifies your address? Students that fall under the Friends and Family provision might experience this.
  3. You might have reported your device as lost or stolen. If you found your device please bring it back to the media center so it can be unlocked.
  4. We did have a slight problem with VLA students and their devices being locked. We have fixed this issue.
  5. If you still have this issue, please talk with your student’s teachers and they can create a PLSD Technology Help Desk ticket for us to investigate.

Q: My student’s device seems to be registered to another student. How can I remove the other student?

A: This should only impact elementary students with Chromebooks. Since our past model was to keep the devices in the elementary schools, the devices that we handed out this year to 3rd and 4th grade students have been used by other students in the past. You can simply delete the other student on the login screen, but clicking on the down arrow next to their name and pulling down to remove this user.

Q: I’ve missed the pickup date for devices, when and where can I pick up my student’s device?

A: Students who did not pick up on scheduled dates will receive devices on their first face to face day of school.

Q: We have my student’s device but we don’t remember the username or password.

A: All PLSD students have a Google Account, their username is their email address, which follows a similar pattern of firstname_lastnameXXX@students.plsd.us (where the XXX is the last three of their student ID#.

  1. If the student is in grades K-4 please try their student ID + 00 as their password.
  2. If the student is in grades 5-12 they have created their own password.
  3. If that password does not work or your student has forgotten their password please fill out this form and we will reset it as soon possible.
    • *Please only submit the form once per student. Multiple submissions will delay the response or cause more confusion with the passwords

Q: My device needs to be repaired, where do I go, and when?

A: If your student is in Cohort A or B, they can bring their device to their school’s media center on any of the days they are in school.

A: Additionally, the Technology Team will hold repair days every Wednesday throughout the school year from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. & 1:00 – 3:30 p.m at the District Office (90 N East Street). This is open to all PLSD students. Please fill out this form so we know you are coming and we are aware of what to expect.

Q: I need a hotspot, where and how can I obtain one?

A: PLSD has the Every-1 Connected Program, which allows PLSD families to have one hotspot per family. Please fill out this form and bring it to the weekly Wednesday repair days at the District Office (we will have copies available as well). Please see further information on the PLSD Technology Department page under Every-1 Connect Program.

Q: I don’t know my or my student’s Infinite Campus Parent/Student Portal account information.

A: Please take a look at the PLSD Infinite Campus website for more information. You can also submit this Google Form for help with your username/password for Infinite Campus.
