LIBRARY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THIS 9 WEEKS
Get Charged in the Library!
In support of S9's new BYOD pilot program and mobile device learning, I have set up a charging station for our students. So far, it has been a big hit! Students come in during break to charge their devices. Most often, students charge devices while they are reading or working on class projects. This is definitely an example of "blending the lines."
About the Charging Stations
About the Charging Stations
- Charge up to 15 devices, both IOS and Android, on the provided charging blocks.
- 12 additional power outlets are available for students who bring their own charging cables.
Charging Station Rules
- Your Device. Your Responsibility.
- Do not leave your device unattended.
- S9GS is not responsible for misplaced, damaged, or stolen devices.
Spanish Classes "Travel" to the Library
Señorita Templeton's Spanish I classes used books in the library to research about "Los países hispanohablantes" - Spanish Speaking Countries! These students used their research findings to create travel brochures on their selected countries.
Team Teaching in the Library
Language Arts Classes collaborated in the library in order to facilitate an open discussion about Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
Celebrating the Freedom to Read
Banned Books Week was September 21st - 27th. I had the opportunity to share the importance of this week with approximately 400 students. The focus of the presentation was on The First Amendment and censorship, specifically on the impact of how both affect reading in the United States.
Professional Development Sessions
On September 26th the S9 faculty participated in professional development in the library. Teachers were teaching teachers about cool tech tools like: Kahoot!, ExitTicket, Skitch, and Genome Cache.

Books + Technology @yourlibrary!
How to locate books: There's an App for that! Students use Atriuum on the Go to locate library books.
Atriuum on the Go is a free app that puts the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) right at a student's fingertips. Mr. Williams and Mrs. Oldacre's classes had the opportunity to try out the Atriuum App and it was a big success. Students were able to carry the iPads with them while they were locating books. Once they found their book sources, they could then use the iPads at the tables to find other sources on the web.
