Student Schedules
Schedule Guidelines:
- Students must have 6 Math and ELA classes scheduled for the week. The 6th lesson accounts for Thursday's Math playposit and Friday's ELA playposit. This means math MUST have a scheduled lesson each Thursday, and ELA MUST have a scheduled lesson each Friday.
- Please avoid scheduling Virginia Studies on Monday. Virginia Studies is an SOL-tested course for fourth graders and many holidays fall on Monday throughout the year.
- Health and P.E. have a 50% progress requirement for the year. This means that you can complete each course 1x weekly and still end the year on time.
- Stride Math and Stride ELA are encouraged for students to work in at least 1x weekly. This means that you can adjust the number of times stride appears on your student's schedule.
- Art is optional.
If you have schedule concerns you'd like to discuss, please reach out to your homeroom teacher.
Submitting OLS Assignments
We will have occasional writing assignments that we will collect throughout the year, but we will make sure the assignment instructions, due dates, and turn-in instructions are very clear in those instances. If you have questions, or would like to submit work for your teacher to see, please reach out directly to your homeroom teacher via email for further instructions.
Supplemental and P.E. Hours
When logging OLS attendance hours, families should plan to log a total of 16 supplemental and P.E. hours per week.
It is recommended for families to log a total of 8 P.E. hours weekly within the P.E. course. This includes time spent working in the P.E. curriculum.
You should then plan to log 8 additional hours as supplemental each week. Supplemental hours can be, but aren’t limited to, the following list of suggested activities:
- Field trips or educational outings
- Educational videos, movies, or documentaries
- Educational games
- Reading for pleasure
- Theatrical Plays
- Flash cards or reviewing math facts at the dinner table
OLS Attendance Office
- Families will need to start entering attendance on the first day of school. You should also enter attendance for time spent on all assessments and PE/supplemental hours.
