The Meeks Messenger
2nd Edition, Vol. 10 October 2019
Hey, hey Mustangs!
We would like to welcome the newest support staff to Parkside...Dinora Alcala and Nathaniel Altaffer. Please help us in welcoming them to our Parkside family!
Please make sure you have submitted your LEADS professional goals and SLOs in STRIVE. Your SLO Google document must be uploaded in the evidence section of your SLO form as a link.
Please make sure you have updated your RTI forms and progress monitoring in AWARE BEFORE our time together Thursday during planning. Please get with Erin or Maggie if you need help before then.
Like last year, we will have Literacy Day this year on October 31st. Students AND staff will be welcomed to dress up as their favorite book character and are encouraged to bring the book along with them to showcase in the Literacy Day Parade!
This day is a meant to be fun and teachers are encouraged to develop activities throughout the day that have a literacy focus. Even if you teach math, this about how could you embed literacy components into your math lessons! This is a great way for students to see that literacy is the foundation of everything and tied to all they do!
Let's make this a fun day of learning with our students! The admin team would love to be a part of your day, so if there is a way you want to utilize us, just let us know! Read alouds are a great example of how we can be a part of the fun...just reach out!

Please wear college t-shirts on Oct. 30th and share your college and career stories with our students. This is a great time to talk to kids about college and expose them to what life could potentially look like for them in years to come. Here are some questions to guide your discussions:
- Explain where you went to college and why you chose that school.
- What did you study and why?
- What was your favorite class and why?
- What food did you most often eat while attending college?
- What was the most exciting part about going to college?
- How did you meet friends and what was important about that?
- What was your college mascot? School colors? Can you still sing the fight song, etc?
- What college organizations where you involved in? ( Sorority, Fraternity, School Newspaper, Charity Organizations, Sports, Academics)
Box Tops!
