7th Grade GSS Weekly Update
Week of 3/30-4/3
Classroom Happenings
Economics:
This week we started learning about some basic economics and personal finance using Ever-Fi.com, a website that offers online learning units. Our activities this week helped the students understand the ways values influence their spending, the role budgeting, the differences between debit and credit cards, and situations when paying with credit, debit, and cash may be the best choice.
Most of these online lessons have a 5 question pre-assessment, 10 question post-assessment, and 2 reflection questions. If students get less than 70% on the quizzes, they will need to redo the lesson so they can get a passing score on the section quiz.
While the online activity is useful as a tool to introduce these concepts, we will have some fun ways to practice and consider these concepts after we finish this part of the unit.
Recording History:
Students are coming up with good ideas for their first Recording History assignment and I’m excited to see how the final projects are going to turn out.
I created an Assignment Guide with the expectations, guidelines, and a few hints and suggestions. It also has a scoring guide included.
The purpose of this assignment is to record what daily life is like during this time of social distancing or isolation and their observations about what’s going on in the world around them.
Each entry should include something they experienced or observed, like a story. They should include their own ideas, thoughts, questions, opinions. A few facts should be used in the text to support their thinking.
Our first attempts may not be perfect, but each week we will look at examples from the media and consider ways to strengthen our own entries.
