Superintendent Update
Hello Nashoba!
Yesterday I sent a message to the Center School community announcing the resignation of Principal Shelley Dulsky. Principal Dulsky had a positive and profound impact in the short time she was the leader of Center School. I am sharing the letter with the entire school community to apprize you of our current situation and next steps.
Dear Families of Center School Students,
As you know, Principal Shelley Dulsky has been on personal leave to attend to private matters. This week, Ms. Dulsky informed us of the difficult news that the scope and seriousness of those matters are such that her full attention is required beyond what she and her family had originally anticipated. As a result, Ms. Dulsky has made the difficult decision to resign from her position as Principal of The Center School. This decision has been incredibly challenging for her. In a very short time, she has developed relationships and connections with our community, a community that she has shared she will miss deeply. I hope you can join all of us in NRSD in supporting Ms. Dulsky and wishing her all the best.
To ensure The Center School community is well cared for during this time, I have appointed Ms. Lenore Zavalick to serve as the Interim Principal for the remainder of the year. Ms. Zavalick has done an outstanding job ensuring that the needs of all of our learners are met while Ms. Dulsky has been away, and I am confident she will continue to do a great job. We will continue to support The Center School from the central office with the guidance and presence of Assistant Superintendent, Laura Friend. It is a team effort, and we are committed to doing our best in service to our students, families, faculty, and staff.
We will conduct a complete and comprehensive search for our next school leader. We are posting the position today, and we will host preliminary interviews with candidates during April vacation week. Details on how the community will be engaged in the process will be released on Friday, April 7th.
I thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Peace,
Kirk Downing

The Center School Meets the Mount Washington Observatory!
Nashoba’s very own, Karen Wesley, a second-grade teacher at the Center School, was atop Mount Washington last Wednesday, working alongside meteorologists, touring the observatory, and getting to see firsthand the weather instrumentation in action. While she might have been out of the classroom, she was still connecting with her students as she took part in a weather observation and reported her findings live via videoconference.
Ms. Wesley was only one of two teachers from Massachusetts selected to participate in Mount Washington Observatory’s popular Arctic Wednesdays professional development program which introduces teachers and students to the arctic landscape of this unique summit, often referred to as the “Home of the World’s Worst Weather.” On select Wednesdays over the last few months, Ms. Wesley has joined weather observers on their snowy commute to the Mount Washington Observatory to learn in their legendary weather station.
When asked about the highlight of her weather adventure, she said that getting to the top and touring the station was an amazing experience, and a close second was seeing the Anemometer, a device that measures wind speed and direction.
