Palmer High
Weekly Update
Students Wrapping Up
Virtual graduation aired on Tuesday to celebrate and honor our 2020 seniors. The underlying messages in the speeches spoke to the support the school and community has shown to the students of Palmer. It is what sets Palmer apart.
The school strives to create a culture of caring, and the community of Palmer and the stakeholders at Palmer extend this sentiment. When we have a community that cares, we can make it through any challenge, and we will always come out better for it. We are confident that this will be the result of the school closure, and all the adversity our students and families have endured during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.

Grading Guidlines for Distance Learning
From the beginning of the school closure and new distance learning transition, I have expressed to staff to exercise extra care and attention to the needs of our students and families. Without knowing what learning environments are like at home, we knew we needed to show grace and take time to reach out to see how and what we can do to help.
Our intention for grading to finish out the school year is to avoid any unintended consequences due to distance learning. The goal is to avoid negative consequences to students GPA and credit accumulation towards graduation.
If you have concerns about grades after they are posted next week don't hesitate to reach out to us to review and discuss your concern. Call Palmer High at 746-8400.
Remote learning Grading Guidelines
- If a student was passing at the end of the third quarter and their grade went down the student would earn a “P” for Passing. The student will earn credit but this will not affect the student’s GPA.
- If a student was failing at the end of the third quarter and continued to fail the student would earn a “NG” for No Grade. The student will not earn credit and this will not affect the student’s GPA.
- If a student maintained the same grade or improved their grade during our remote learning experience they will get the grade they earned.
For all earned grades, for example, a student earns a “C”, and elects to take a “P” instead that wish will be granted.
Special consideration will be taken for the difficulty experienced by students and families and is subject to administrative review.

Yearbooks Delayed
We received information this week that the delivery of the yearbooks will be delayed. Our vendor, Life Touch, is located in the lower 48 and due to the pandemic, the print factories have been closed, and yearbooks are delayed across the country.
Life Touch has indicated that the first week in June is the earliest possible date that we will receive the yearbooks. When the yearbooks arrive, we will develop a system for the students to pick up their yearbooks, similar to our check-out and check-in procedures we used for school materials.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Class of 2020 Commemorative Mural
The first-ever, graduate car, truck, and tractor parade was organized by parents. The parents, the school, and city of Palmer partnered to hang posters in downtown Palmer (the graduates will get these when the city takes them down). To cap it all off, this commemorative mural will remain by the senior locker bank to honor our unique Class of 2020.
Congratulations Graduates!
