Tiger Talk - Back to School Edition
06/04/19
A special invitation from Principal Melanie Beninga
As you know we are a fast-growing district and campus. We are projected to add quite a few new Tigers this coming year, and we are very excited about that. With this exciting growth, however, comes needed adjustments to our school-wide procedures and planning. One of these adjustments is that our usual "Meet the Teacher Night" is now an expanded "Meet the Teacher Day."
After today's first edition of Tiger Talk was published, several parents contacted me to express concern about the change to a "Meet the Teacher Day." Thus, I wanted to send this special edition newsletter to address these concerns. We truly appreciate the feedback. We want everyone to feel included and welcome, and we regret any inconvenience to our families due to the change from an afternoon to daytime schedule for meeting our teachers.
The "Meet the Teacher" event has been a topic of discussion among the principals for several months, for we all knew that adjustments would be required in order to provide a less crowded and less overwhelming atmosphere for our students--especially so for those coming to our school for the very first time. Our goals are to provide students and parents more quality time with the teachers and to give students the opportunity to explore and get settled in their new classrooms. Students will have the opportunity to drop off their school supplies and parents will be able to share any information about the students the teachers might need to know in order to begin a successful year of learning.
As our numbers grow, so do our crowds which can be quite overwhelming for our students and parents. Our limited parking, also, is a challenge when we have large numbers coming into the building at one time.
Knowing this would be a change from schedules followed in prior years, the district's desire was to share information about our new "Meet the Teacher Day" earlier this summer to provide parents with the time to make any necessary arrangements. West Cypress Hills Elementary always invites parents to escort their children to their classrooms the first two or three days of school. Perhaps if the new "Meet the Teacher Day" schedule does not work well for you, meeting the teacher, instead, on the first day of school will still allow you and your children to feel at ease with their new classrooms without creating too much of a hardship for parents.
Meeting the teacher is such an exciting time for our kiddos. We want to provide a calm and safe environment for them in which to meet their new teachers and start their year off on a positive note. I invite you to come to to our "Meet the Teacher Day." I look forward to greeting you in person.
Thank you for your comments, your flexibility and understanding.
Meet the Teacher Day is August 13!
West Cypress Hills Elementary cordially invites you to our Meet the Teacher Day! We have set aside Tuesday, August 13, so that you can bring your 2019-2020 Tigers to school to meet their new teachers, see where their classrooms are located, and store away school supplies. During our Meet the Teacher Day, there will be opportunities to purchase Tiger Spirit Wear, join the PTO, and speak with staff from our Food and Nutrition Services (cafeteria) and the LTISD Transportation Team.
In advance of our Meet the Teacher Day, you will be sent an email providing the name of your Tiger's homeroom teacher. The email will be sent to you Monday, August 12, around 4:00 pm; so, please make sure your enrollment or re-enrollment forms contain your current email address!
